Re: Temporary residency renewal for over 60
Went over on Sunday and I asked the young man at Immigration if I needed a temp res visa. He just asked me if I was over 60, looked at my passport and said "No".
Interestingly, on the way back I was given a 90 day stamp.

Re: Temporary residency renewal for over 60
My wife and I went in February with all the paperwork for renewal of our residency for the 7th year and was told that it was no longer necessary, however I went to renew my drivers licence June and was refused because I had not renewed my residency,
having confronting the manager who insisted that the law had changed, things became more complicated.
I explained my situations to a TC friend of ours who took me to the driving licence main office in Nicosia that process all vehicle licences and manage to get me 3 years.
Please check with you car insurance company that you will be covered driving on a UK licence as I have been informed by my friend and Girne police station that you can be fined if driving a TC plated car with UK licence.
I hope this information will help prevent a situation that we can all do without.
As you may know having lived in the TRNC for several years laws can change overnight without warning !

Re: Temporary residency renewal for over 60
Two weeks ago went to renew my driving licence in Girne, said I was over 60 and just had to provide old licence, two photos, photocopy of my passport name page and an up to date muhtar's letter. Absolutely no problem!!

Re: Temporary residency renewal for over 60
Please note lovely people, I require information on renewing my residency, not driving licence, I have lived here for 7 years and renew for two years each time. Each time the requirements are different, higher fee, higher stamp requirements etc etc. is their anybody over 60 who has renewed their residency recently. I am aware of the idea , that over 60 there is no need to renew, however I would sooner pay the money than have problems further down the road. Thank you

Re: Temporary residency renewal for over 60
We did ours this week. In and out within the hour.
You need,
Mukhtars letter
Bank statements
Kocan
Stamps 10 TL each or at the cafeteria for 11.5
Copy of passport and residency stamp
Marriage certificate copy
The White form (I downloaded one from the forum first and filled it in before we went.)
250TL a year per person we got the two year stamp and in total that was 1000 TL.
Told that the pink books not necessary now we were that age but we had taken them anyway.
The lovely lady dealing with us said that if we were both driving then residency renewal was necessary.
Hope that helps.

Re: Temporary residency renewal for over 60
I am confused.
I understand that some don't trust the ''rumour'' that you don't have to renew residency aged over 60.
Some do,and some don't.
What I don't understand is that if you don't have to renew, then why do they keep taking money off over 60's to renew?

Re: Temporary residency renewal for over 60
The law says you must (they haven't changed that yet) - some Government bods 'say' you don't need to - I know which one I'm going with... Especially if this 'white card' malarkey requires the over 60's to have 5 years of contiguous stamps to qualify - but I'll believe that when I see it. Those who don't renew might wish they had if it means they qualify for a white card bestowing permanent resident status LEGALLY... Not just some 'here today gone tomorrow politician' to quote Sir Robin Day.
Whilst I don't doubt those who make the statement believe the words they say - they can't have the force of law until the law is changed - why they don't change the law? Hmmm... makes you wonder. It could be whipped away at a moments notice with the Govt. declaring such an easement unconstitutional. I don't believe any government official has the power to vary the law according to their whim.

We have 8 years contiguous stamps .. Feb 2006 to Feb 2014 ..Groucho wrote: Especially if this 'white card' malarkey requires the over 60's to have 5 years of contiguous stamps to qualify - but I'll believe that when I see it. We were told by immigration in February that we needn't renew, we didn't ..
We have been south numerous times since, last month flew in & out of Ercan, not a flicker, no questions asked ..
Maybe wrong, but is it not the police who check you "in & out" ?

Yes but what if the white card requires five years up to and including the date of application - then you don't because you haven't renewed.... I hope I'm wrong for your sake -but "ooops" happens here and people always seem to be left holding the wrong end of the stick. Being 'told by immigration' is not a legal position no matter how you argue it... If they mislead you - how do you rectify that?

Re: Temporary residency renewal for over 60
Hi,
I have just been this morning to re-new mine (over 60).
Whilst there I did say to the young girl who was dealing with my
application, do I have to re-new, her answer, shrug of the shoulders.
I did have to laugh though at her response.
I had every intention of re-newing but just thought I'd ask.
500tl for 2 years, in & out in 30mins.
But more importantly, peace of mind for me.

Groucho .. What exactly do YOU think they can do ..
This is our only home .. Nothing in England ..
We are not working illegally .. Only spending our state pensions putting all our coffers into the TRNC ..
We were told by the people who take the money, they didn't want ours .. So much so they didn't get it ..
Since February we have had no problems what so ever ..

I have to say, rightly or wrongly we buy our residency every year, but I don't criticise those that don't, it's a personal choice, but as someone who will have to renew their driving licence next year, I err on the side of caution.

What does it matter what I think?
Could they withhold a white card, could they about face and say - you are in arrears and charge penalties - who knows - I'm not going around in circles arguing with you as you have made your choice but I don't agree that the BRS should have sought to influence others - what the BRS should have pushed for is a change in the law. Then we would all know it was for real... If you feel threatened by my line of argument that's for you. My advice to others is until it's in black and white don't set too much store by it.

Re: Temporary residency renewal for over 60
so if you live here, may I ask why don't you want to live by the law, admittedly the category of residency they issue 'temporary' after 8 years is rather insulting especially when it is your only home.harita wrote: This is our only home .. Nothing in England ..
..
But the other day when I left garden rubbish outside a house where I was told by the municipality it would be collected I was told by the resident they charged 51tl to take it away and in future can I put it somewhere else. We all moan but when they try and raise money either legally or trying to keep the country tidier it seems nobody wants to contribute, no wonder they have to rip us off on other things.

Re: Temporary residency renewal for over 60
I don't know how many times this thread crops up but I am sure of one thing, those who do not renew (including me) are fairly certain of the consequences if things do change. Its a concession as I understand it which can be rescinded at any time.
I did not renew last year nor this year, I have been South, out of the country and not one official has blinked an eye lid at it.
What I do object to is the number of people on here telling me I am breaking the law, I am a naughty person, I won't get my White card! Get over it people, keep paying that's fine, if you renew that's fine, good for you, please don't keep ramming down our throats the consequences for those who choose no to, thank you and goodnight.

Re: Temporary residency renewal for over 60
It's not about leaving Cyprus and coming back or going south and back with no problems though is it? It's about being covered by the law when you are here. If you don't like what you are hearing.... don't open the threads. If you know you will be wound up don't read it. Nobody is ramming it down your throat. I have deliberately not mentioned individuals until addressed individually myself. As I have said - I hope I'm proved wrong and all remains fine and dandy but the experience of living and buying property here must tell us all something - surely.
Annual temporary residency is a pain in the butt and nobody wants to do it. I wish the 5 year naturalisation that was in force when we first came here were still adhered to - I'm pretty sure the law is still on the statute book and they have decided quite unconstitutionally to withhold it on an ad-hoc basis overstepping their powers. Which is in itself probably actionable at ECHR. However the man in the street seldom gets any joy up against the machinery of a Government.

We did a driving licence RENEWAL this week in Girne, never asked for or was shown residency stamp in passport. So do we need residency for driving licence renewal ..... May be for first application?

Re: Temporary residency renewal for over 60
We were definitely told at immigration this week that if we were both driving then we would need a residency stamp to renew our licences.
Not a problem as we planned to renew anyway but the point was clearly made to us.

Re: Temporary residency renewal for over 60
As usual you get a different story every time from those in the know at immigration. I renewed my licence 2 years ago they didnt ask for my passport at all.
Re: Temporary residency renewal for over 60
Have they stopped giving full TRNC residency / Citizenship because of the complaints from the GC's about the number of immigrants (which I take to mean Turks) being allowed in the North and which has been (one of many) stumbling blocks in the negotiations?
