Who Do You Trust?
I have lived here for 11 years and take in my stride the broken promises, the incompetance, the corruption and the traffic etc.etc etc.
But when it comes to serious health problems regarding myself and my beloved pets I am seriously frightened.
Tonight my beautiful young cat died because of, A the b,,,,,,d driver who hit her, I can guarantee it will have been a Cypriot because they speed up when they see an animal on the road, the brits slow down.
And B the total incompetance of the first vet who I took her to who said, no internal injuries, no broken bones, he put her on a drip for the day and told me to take her home, she was fine.
He wasn't available over the holidays so I went to his stand in who, although he wrongly diagnosed her as having a burst gall bladder, had the sense to realise it was an emergency and sent me to the Near East university animal hospital.
They did lots of tests and found that she had a dislocated hip but more seriously a ruptured intestine.
They were fantastic, so caring and thorough. They put her on a drip, gave her strong antibiotics and told me to take her home and bring her back in the morning when they would give her some more serum and on monday they were going to operate on her intestines.
Unfortunately, she died in my husband's arms at 6pm tonight, not an expert but I think a massive heart attack from toxic shock.
All those toxins building up in her body for 11 days.
Myself and my daughter had extensive and costly dental treatment and had lots of pain caused through infections and abscesses, and lack of hygiene and cost cutting on the dentist's behalf.
So scary. I hope I win lots of money on the big money new years lottery so I can go somewhere safe. A happy and healthy new year to you all.

Re: WHO DO YOU TRUST?
I'm really, really sorry for the suffering you have been through, Blue butterfly, and the pain your cat went through. There are no words really.
It is something I live in dread with. Our animals go to Garfields because he is nearest to us, and he is always very kind to them. However, I know he has to call in help for any big emergency.
I have not yet had health issues myself here, touch wood, but still live in dread.
I do hope you have a better new year.

Re: WHO DO YOU TRUST?
I completely agree with you blue butterfly and am very very sorry for your awful treatment re; your beloved cat. I too after living here 27 years and after emergency treatment at the local hospital am afraid for my life if anything else happens as we all cannot afford private treatment. Each time I hear horror stories like this, I am afraid I trust no one. It just shows nothing has improved here and I am really disillusioned but stuck.

Re: WHO DO YOU TRUST?
Firstly sympathy for your situation.
However I hate your unjust generalisations about Cypriot drivers and Vets. From personal experience I have seen Cypriots slowing down for animals on many occasions and just recently came across a car holding up traffic whilst the passenger removed a cat from the road. There are many a story of the efforts Vets have put in to save pets.
There will always be good and bad the world over.

Re: WHO DO YOU TRUST?
Although I sympathise with the loss of your cat, I find your remark , ""The B-----d driver who hit her, I can guarantee it will have been a cypriot because they speed up when they see an animal on the road, the Brits slow down.!"" That is Bull s--t & racist. How many cypriots do you actually know , personally ?How would you feel if anything unpleasent happened here and the Cypriots all started blaming it on ex pats ? We have have 2 animals run over in my area recently and in both cases they were under parked cars so when the driver drove off they hadnt realised an animal was under their car.Btw, they were not cypriots, but it could happen to anyone.cats and dogs roam the streets, lounging in the middle of the road, darting in front of moving cars, or even chasing them.its so easy for an animal to cause a crash..so please, an animal getting hit by a car doesnt mean the driver was speeding. As for vets, you.ll get good and bad everywhere in the world.Hospital,? I havent any complaints , government or private.i think the NHS in the UK is terrible, I doubt I could afford to go private there.

That's a joke vonnie the Cypriots north and south have been blaming everything on the expats and I mean every single thing that happens on the island for years and years take off your rose tinted glasses and see.

Re: WHO DO YOU TRUST?
I find this post so sad as Blue Butterfly is married to a Cypriot and since coming here has made the effort to mix and accept their way of living far better than me. For her to even indicate blame she must be so very upset about her cat. Chin up BB x

Re: WHO DO YOU TRUST?
Yes, and I, too is married to a cypriot, I have many family and friends who are cypriot, none of them would behave in the way blue butterfly has stated..Please name something that the cypriots blame ex pats for, trouble is, when something is said, the Brits stick together weather its right or wrong .
