Hi

Could you tell me how we would go about making our own will in TRNC please? Also, if anyone has a template they could send I would be grateful. Thanks Megs

Hi Schoie

Thank you so much. All printed off and ready to be completed. Once completed do you know what we should do next please? I know it was mentioned on 44 something about the post office in Girne but can anyone help further please?

Thanks

Hi Shoie,
Can you send me a copy so that I can add it to a new help page being created for new comers to the island. Also, if you have the full process that would help as well, ie. who to send it to , address, tel, email etc....
Regards,

Hi Soner

This is such a good idea as it is so expensive to get it lodged with a solicitor.

Please, if anyone knows the procedure please put it on here to help others.

Also, can a section be headed 'Helpful Info' and whenever a moderator sees a post that may help others it could be dropped into that section. Just a thought!

Once you have sorted your will out, make an appointment - or go on spec - sometimes you are lucky - to the office in the Court building next to the Post Office in Girne. Take your witnesses with you, plus passports for all. The lady there will watch witnesses sign, examine passports and stamp Will. She keeps original in sealed envelope (real sealing wax!!) gives you a copy and you pay about 40 lira - have a feeling postage stamps came into it somewhere, and we rushed and bought some, but I may be getting confused - so many things need stamps!! I have been told you dont need to take witnesses, just their passport - copies presumably - but we played safe and took the people! a lot cheaper than having an advoate do it for you, we were quoted £360 for the two of us with a back to back Will - (both identical apart from our names)
Hope this helps!

Sorry - missed a bit - I think even if you get a Lawyer to do it, it still needs to be lodged at the Court House - so as long as your Will is a relatively simple one, what I have said above is certainly the easiest and cheapest way of going about it! All to him, and all to me - Coldnt be simpler!!! (As long as we dont kick the bucket together - i gather one left has to live for about another 21 days to inherit - if the remaining partner doesnt then it gets more awkward - but then you're not there to worry about it!)

Thanks for the info mamchina.
Meggymoo, I will add this to a special page on Kibkom once created with a list of special numbers and addresses. I have another topic on the forum asking members to help out and put together info for new comers. Once info is collated the help page will be created.

I do not know if I have been ill advised, but I was told that if you do a will yourself it is not valid over here, hope this is not true, can anyone advise me please?

Cannot confirm if a DIY will is valid or not. We did get the template from Dutch a few months back and were considering the DIY method, but after some thought we decided that we would use our advocate for the service. Did not want to take a chance on getting it wrong or it not being valid for whatever reason. We may well just be being extra cautious but for £200 v the cost of the property which may be lost or be subject to a long legal argument we decided to try and be as safe as possible. Others may disagree or have information which will make our £200 seem like money not so well spent, would be interesting to have confirmation that DIY wills are valid or not.
