Can anyone help with directions (from Metehan) to the Central Post Office in Nicosia - i seem to recall it was past Alpha Mega somewhere ? Also do i need anything in particular, apart from money, to open a PO Box there ?

The way to the central post office is as you say, pass Alphamega into Nicosia and at the 2nd set of lights (this used to have a Harley Davidson shop the junction) you will turn right and follow the road up and eventually at a set of lights you will find the central post office on your left, sorry I cannot remember how many sets of lights you need to go through.

Regarding opening a post box, firstly there is a nearer post office to the Metahan border than the central post office. Directions are: after leaving the border crossing, head down to the traffic lights (the t-junction one with coca cola opposite) then turn left. Then turn right just before the pedestrian crossing and you will find a post office approx 50 -75 metres up the road on the right hand side.

People have had different experiences in getting a box, some have just shown their passports and it has been ok and some have been asked for proof of residence in the South; I guess it depends on which side of the bed the person you are dealing with, has got out of!

Thanks squashmad. Do you know if you can collect parcels at the one near Metehan ? Someone has said that you have to go to the Central one to collect any parcels (Xmas is coming !!! ha ha) but i am not sure. It would be easier to have a box at the one near Metehan.

If the parcel will fit into the po box then that is where it will end up also some 'slightly' larger ones will also be held at the post office that you have a box in and they will leave a note in your box.

If there is anything larger then a note will be left in your box and you will then go to the central post office to collect it.

Have you thought of walking accross the Border at Locmachie on to Ledra St. No problems with car insurance there eh? At the end of Ladra St - a few hundred metres walk - turn left at the junction and you'll see the PO on the right where you can get a PO Box no problem. The counter assistant doesn't care where you live as long as you have identification and it cost about 50 euros the first time for the year. However, we have had to go to the main PO for big parcels and that's another matter, I couldn't tell you how we got there!

We have box there and get our large parcels there, I thought that was the main one?

The main parcel Office (and Customs if parcel from outside the EU ), Is in Prodromous Avenue, as per Squashmad s directions
