Please Please Please.
Lets not bring the American tradition of 'trick or treating' here.
It was bad enough in the UK,hoards of kids (whom I would assume are told never to talk or to take sweets off strangers)banging on your door at all hours .
My 83 year old mother was so scared and intimidated by the kids that she used to stay at my house on 'Halloween'.
In the USA and Canada ,if you didn't want to participate, you left your porch light off, and that system works well there.
Unfortunately that rule wasn't introduced to the UK.
I'm not a killjoy, but when having fun involves scaring the elderly, you can count me out.
It's one of the things I don't miss from home-The UK has bonfire night, the US has 'Trick or treating'-lets leave it that way please.

YAY thank you mishmash! I definitely need to get ready for Halloween
Philoz- Sorry your mum has bad experiences on Halloween, BUT I hope it is celebrated, kindly. Scaring people is part of the fun, IF they have a sense of humour and the participants knows it will be taken that way.
Please if anyone knows of where trick or treating is happening, post so that I can take my toddler!- thank you in advance!

I whole heartedly agree with you Philoz. It should be left in the USA or the UK.
Oh shall we celebrate Indepence Day in the USA here as well???
As for scaring people is part of the fun...............
I bet if you said it is not good for cats and dogs you would have had 50 people agreeing with you.

Quite agree, Trick-or-Treat and kids running around with fireworks are a pain.
The latest "import" from the States when I left UK was "Showers", ie "Baby Showers" etc.
"We are having/have had a baby. You are welcome to come and bring loads of presents. We have a list of what we want"!

Totally agree. Folk who wish to " celebrate " Halloween should do so in a chosen venue with like minded people. Not trawl the streets making a nuisance of themselves
Elderly neighbours who quickly closed their door in shock got raw eggs and flour thrown at their door, because they didn't respond in the manner expected.
That's not celebration that's vandalism.
You mentioned dogs,looseboots
When I inadvertently opened my door to a group of groaning skeletons and howling devils my two dogs who rushed to greet the visitors saw it as a threat. They went into a frenzy of barking. The perpetrators didn't hang around long enough to throw the eggs at my door.

I cant believe it Mishmash. All you did was let the forum know that your shop had Halloween goodies for sale. I hope you don't advertise Christmas items cos I cant stand folk celebrating Christmas
At least it keeps you at the top

@ Lor51
It wasn't so much the Halloween aspect that made me post,If folk want to have a Halloween party they are welcome-it was the 'trick or treat' reference that prompted me as this conjures up kids dressed in black bin liners demanding money with menaces.
Not really sure what Christmas has to do with it though?

The post was intended as Lor stated to advise that these items are on sale and not aimed to promote the images many of you have described. For many years here there have been Halloween parties for children at suitable venues (such as schools and The Black Olive as well as others) where children have attended dressed up with their 'trick or treat' bag and had a lot of fun without menacing any households and the post is to let parents of these youngsters know where they can obtain what they might require. (The 'trick or treat' reference is only in reference to what it says on the bag).

Whew!
Glad we got that one sorted.
Hope you all have a great Halloween party with the kids,It was the 'trick or treat' thing that sent icy shivers in my heart.
People having fun and not upsetting others is a good thing I think.

Thank you mishmash for announcing where to find goodies, again. And thank you Black Olive Cafe, I will definitely try to attend. If there was an area that did trick or treating or parties then its for good fun for the kids, which I would love my toddler to join in.
