Istanbul Spice market

Watching a TV programme about the spice market and I thought if Turkey ever joins the EU the market would have to go they would not be allowed to have all those open sacks of food and spices what a shame that would be and a blow for tourism.

Love it there....... it just wouldn't be the same without the spices and the smells.

One of the many problems with the EU sanitize everything and make everything conform. Open markets have been around for thousands of years and we have survived.

We were in the Spice Market last December the atmosphere was wonderful but we did remark then that if Turkey joined the EU it wouldn't allow the open displays, it certainly would spoil a lot of Turkish culture.

I don't see why it would have to close, plenty of farmer's markets in EU countries have food on open display.
