Problems with Skype calls to the UK tonight

Has anyone else had problems connecting Skype calls to the UK tonight? Is it anything to do with the gales etc ,winds of 99 mph in Bedfordshire today!!
Possible but there is another explanation;
There has also been an incident today at Bosporus. A Big ship crossing the straits broke down, and anchored at a location its not supposed to, breaking many fiberoptic cables between Europe and Asia side of Istanbul.
It has been announced by Turkish Telekom that no downtime will occur due to redundancy but slowness in connections can happen.
