Cornflour

My wife uses cornflour to thicken gravy and sauces but for the last 3 months cannot find it in any of the supermarkets and our last spoonful was used last night!
I guess there must be a Turkish equivalent, what does anyone else use?

You can get Kenton Misir Nisastasi corn starch for thickening & sauces & Bunsa Misir Unu for baking at Atakara & Lemar.

I buy the local one, Nicasti, or something like that. It's in most supermarkets, in the flour region.

Thanks Mollie, she has looked in the South last week in Alphamega and Carrefour but there was none on the shelves.
Thank you everyone else, I have made a note and send her out shopping tomorrow
I will probably get a thick ear for that comment

If you are shopping in the South I always find that Metro has virtually everything I am looking for.

Note, if you want corn flour as opposed to corn starch (there is a big difference) you need to look for 'misir unu'

There is no difference between corn flour and corn starch, other than the former is the English name, and the latter is the American name for the same ingredient.

If you cannot find it I find plain flour works just as well. Depends if you need gluten free.

I have tried the turkish corn starch and the corn flour and I find there is a big difference. I had to use nearly half a packet of the starch to thicken my sauce and I find it makes it glutonous. Horrible stuff.
The cornflour, again, it takes a lot to thicken sauces etc and is an awful yellow colour.
I get my cornflour from the south but a couple of years ago they had it in karoaglanoglu tempo.

There is a huge difference between corn starch and corn flour if you are cooking with it rather than just thickening sauces

There is corn flour, and there is maize flour. They are different. Corn starch is corn flour by another name.

I agree with edi, there is a difference. I have both right now in my cupboard and I'm trying to look at them as "the same" when they are NOT. Corn flour is that maiz flour, misir unu, and cornmeal are the same- just in different languages.
Honestly, I read online too, 'cuz I was going to dispute there difference too; But, I read online, that some people use the terms as if the same ingredient, but should be aware of the texture is different.
anyways I found this in case cornflour and/or cornstarch finishes.
"In terms of substitution, however, corn meal is likelier substituted by something like semolina flour and corn flour is likelier better substituted by quinoa or garbanzo bean flour."
