woody7171,

This is the second post that I have seen reporting this issue (I'm not sure whether the first one was by you or not )

Am I to understand that your Kindle connects with the Amazon Kindle store, and allows you to make the transaction, but then fails to deliver the book?

I do not understand how this could happen, or why... - but I can suggest a 'work-around' - try using Wi-Fi instead of 3G, and try using a friend's computer to download and transfer the book, and see if either one of those changes makes a difference.

What area are you staying in by the way?

Not sure if this comment may give you a steer as I am happy to be a Luddite regarding anything more complicated than a desk calculator. The Wildebeest bought a Kindle G3 in Jan last and shortly afterwards could not process books through Amazon. A PC geek told her that the business arrangement between Amazon and Kindle had ceased in acrimony and that it was necessary to have a Wi Fi connection to download in TRNC. This achieved by using a Wi Fi facility in a local cafe. My Kindle, bought for me by the Wildebeest, remains in it's box. I believe approx £170 was spent on her purchase of a Kindle and I saw somewhere that a another brand of these facilities is now on the market for £39 including built in Wi Fi ! I hope my Kindle now stays in it's box but wish you luck with the problem.

Hi,to all the old Cyprus 44 members.
We had exactly this problem with the 3G kindle we brought with us from the U.K. 2weeks ago,and I was not well pleased as we bought it cos it could work here without a Wi Fi connection.
It took me a lot of effort to get it working even with on-line Help.
This is the conclusion.
First off there is new software that might need to be downloaded if your Kindle has not been connected to a Wi Fi network.(it does it automatically when connected). This is the easier option than trying to downloading it manually.
You can ckeck the version you have at the botton of the home screen it shold be 3.3.
Look at the top r.h. corner of the screen it needs to display some connectivety it should show the 3G symbol and some bars.If it does it should be possible to get it running on 3G.
I needed to reboot the Kindle to get it to work (thus is done by holdind the slider over for at least 20 seconds and then releasing). the screen will be blank but will re awake when then wait until it is up and running follow these instructions
Press Home
Press Menu
Select settings from page menu.
Hold Down Alt key and type EQQ
Allow the Kindle to search for Service providers, this may take a couple of minutes.
The list will appear showing 2x3g and 2x2g poviders Vodaphone and Turkcell.
If Vodaphone is the one it has chosen by itself it will not work here.
Choose Turkcell 3G and enter.
Your Kindle should now work any where here.
If it doesn't get in touch with amazon .co .uk they have a free helpline on their website.
If you want to use your Kindle back in the U.K. you will need to reset it when you get Home.

Hope this Helps

Hi Robocop

How the heck did you figure that one out ! It worked can now take delivery of books on 3G.
Thankyou ! Does this mean the same problem will occur if you travel to any country outside the U.K.

Hi Woody,
I,m not that familiar with Kindle ,was lead to the solution by a very helpful helpline lady.
All I know is she advised to reset it once I took it Home, who knows it might work anyway.
It seems to me that it only causes a problem if it selects a 3G service that does not give it access .
Glad to pass on the info

Hi, I'm so pleased you have joined this forum! I had this problem and received several suggestions from other members but nothing worked. I tried the amazon helpline and the best advice they could offer was to de register my kindle then re register it. I decided not to bother and have been downloading books via my laptop. I've just tried your way and it worked without having to re boot the kindle. Thank you very much.

Amazon has agreements with several major mobile operators around the world to provide a 3G connection for free. Amazon is actually paying per megabyte for for your data!

Amazon must not have this agreement with the local Northern Cyprus mobile operators, therefore the only option is to use a Wireless Internet connection.
