Beware: Poison again in Karsiyaka

My friends dog was poisoned Karsiyaka mountain side, in the area above Green Palace Restaurant last night. Not too far from the area that Mountain Edges dog was poisoned a few weeks ago. Definitely poisoned by the same person. Please do not walk your dogs in this area.

Thanks for that, this place is a nightmare, I do hope the dog is OK. It makes you start to wonder where it is safe to walk the dogs. I have a muzzle on Arthur now, he doesn't like it much but it's the lesser of two evils.

By the way, Arthur is absolutely brilliant now. Full of life and vitality and back to his old self in a big way.

Sadly their beautiful dog didn't make it. He is the second of theirs killed by the same man in a year. You are very lucky to still have your lovely Arthur. My poor dog doesn't go any where off the lead now that we have moved up here, every where just seems like such a risk. Luckily we have a big garden and she loves roaming around out there.

If it is known who is laying the poison, why is nothing being done.

Nothing is done because the police say "he has to be caught in the act" HOW? There is a guy in Catalkoy who has poisoned over 20 dogs. The police have searched his house and of course found nothing, As if he is going to keep it in his own place!

Please tell your friend to report this to the police and to Margaret Ray of KAR. We have a petition going for the muhtar of Karsiyaka with a couple of hundred signatures already. Our group "Stop the Poisoning in Karsiyaka" has been up and running since May this year. If you want to do something about this then join us, you can contact me on 0533 8463507 or mmillermrkgmail.com. Together we will get this stopped but it won't happen overnight. Unfortunately most people want something done as long as it's done by someone else!

Sadly I do not think a petition is going to do much good, a more positive hands on method is needed.

Would be interested in anything paddywack has to say as long as it does not involve being arrested. Which by the way, a petition is one of the few avenues available to foreigners.

We know that a petition isn't going to solve the problem by itself, it's all about raising the profile and getting the locals on our side. It's not just expats' dogs that this happens to! We want a dialogue with the farmers, that's what the petition is about. We are here, we are not going anywhere and we want this practice stopped. By joining together and combining information and resources will will get this stopped. Maybe not today, or tomorrow but it will happen, it has to.

Personally, I applaud any positive action being taken to work towards stopping the indescriminate poisoning of helpless animals, domestic and wild. Although perhaps I understand the attitude that it won't change anything, if we all felt like that nothing would happen and then nothing would change. Change never happens overnight, but it does eventually happen given enough perseverance and determination.

Firstly I am a dog owner living in TRNC all year and deplore the poisoning of any animal. I am also a +ve type about most things in life. However, and despite the good intention behind a petition, change will only occur if those being challenged to do so, want to (smoking, excess binge drinking, speeding etc are all examples). Obviously, the poisoners in Karsiyaka, Catalkoy, Alagadi et al do not see the need to change their abhorrent practices, apparently the Police are impotent unless the criminal is caught in the act and the TRNC Government pay lip service to animal health. Forums, such as this, are good to vent spleens to let off anger and inform others of dangerous areas, but little will change in the present climate - regrettably!
