Advertising Hoardings

Been out this morning and there is another squad of hoardings up between here and Girne. Add to them the new TV screen at beginning of Lapta Strip, the Merit Royal sign (which appears toned down) the big screen in Girne the local advertising peeps must be making a fortune.

However, all of these signs are a dangerous distraction to drivers. It is all very well saying do not look but when things flash or are bright the eye is automatically drawn to them. So business must be booming if companies can afford to pay for this type of advertising, it does not come cheap?? I think not, for the first time ever failed to get inderim at Girne market I feel that is the true state of the economy now.

They are also a real eyesore, more litter on the verges in my view. Interfering with many a pleasant vista, in a country that relies on tourism.

They are dangerous by definition. Why are they there? to attract attention.!

If they attract the driver's attention then they must be dangerous to other road users including pedestrians.

They attract huge income to the Belediye, then the Belediye must be sue-able when accidents happen.

The actual big screens with video on are not allowed to be put up by a shop owner or anything only the one near the round about in girne as the goverment owns that and shop owners want to draw attention that is why they put the light flashing sings up its the fashion here now and the belediye doesn't make any money off of the led flashing light sings as they hardly use any electric they are 5v

I agree with CIH on this one. There are lovely views of the sea being completely obliterated now by static notice boards, yards and yards of the things going up almost every week and very often the same one repeated 3 or 4 times. See, I'm actually reading them instead of concentrating on driving. A year back, workmen were seen taking down large signs on the side of the road, and we were told that companies hadn't paid their annual fee to the Belediye. If companies can afford to start paying again, then business is good for someone at least.
