Did you watch it? Go on, admit it. I did, for the first time in about 10 years. It is not the long drawn out affair that it used to be but the 'politics' are still there.

I had a bet with the hubby that Sweden would win, which, In my opinion, they deservedly did, their entrant has a voice very similar to Celine Dion, and great charisma.

The dear old happy russian ladies were a treat to watch and looked as though they were thoroughly enjoying themselves.

The UK entry, no comment.

I was meaning to watch it ,which would have been the first time in years also but I forgot. Who was the uk entry ?. I heard it was Englebert Humperdink or was this a rumour.

Haven`t watched it for many years. It had been a while since it was judged on the merits of the music. Think they used to lock the panels in a room so they could only listen to the artists they give their unbiased votes.
Those days long gone.............

It was HUMPERDINCK - as in Engelbert.... (not that I actually watched it, of course)

BTW...................What are the Beatles

. Through a haze of nostalgia and dementia "Oh yes, I remember it well". Last time I watched it was won by tottie who lost her shoes in the dressing room and sang something about a "muppet on a rope". The "fix" and "farce" that is the EU hasn't got any better since, be it a song contest or stealing monies from all members. I am sure I can remember some very average singer called Jerry/Gerry? Dorsey who changed his name to Binglehurts Humpmadick, or something similar, making himself almost as famous as Elvis who I am led to believe is still amongst us somewhere.

Wanted to watch something about Ireland on CNN but my husband wanted Song contest, so he won. What an awful show. Used to be about someone singing a song, now it is dancers, acrobats etc., The best I ever saw was when it took part in Ireland and in the break Michael Flately danced and out of that came the Riverdance show. I also loved Terry Wogan and his remarks on every act - very funny - worth watching to see what he had to say.

Yeah, we all like to laugh at Eurovision and complain about the voting, but many of us ended up watching at least a part of it. While in Istanbul, I attended a few really good Eurovision parties ... the acts made you laugh, got you talking to those around you, at the same time you weren't glued to the box all evening; you could disappear to the kitchen for half an hour, chat someone up, and then be called back into the living room to watch such-and-such's ridiculous entry. And during the voting, because of how certain countries always vote, you'd hear people, who wouldn't normally take any interest in such matters, talking about another country's geographical location or its proportion of migrant workers or its historical links. And if indeed, we come second from last, what difference does it make. In short Eurovision gets people talking, makes them laugh and to some extent entertains ... it can't be all bad.

Let's hope though that Azerbaijan sees a return on all that investment in the form of tourism ...
