Turkish Lessons - Recommendations

My wife and I have finally decided to take tackle learning Turkish (again) however when I hear that some teachers seem to concentrate on writing and grammar and hardly any talking, I am filled with dread. We have been there before and to be honest whilst I appreciate you have to learn some grammar, I want to spend most of my lessons practising talking and not writing!

I do not need to be grammatically correct at all times, should I choose to in the future then that is a different story. I want to be able to converse in shops, make appointments, reservations, ask directions (and understand the answers!), just basic stuff to start with.

Can anyone recommend a suitable tutor?

I note that someone has posted conversational Turkish on this forum but I would like to know if anyone has any experience of this tutor?

I also want to restart Turkish lessons.

I am interested in any feedback on the names mentioned in msg 3 as 2 of them have been mentioned to me.

Thank you

I think that maybe many of us have given up learning Turkish as I am not getting very far with this request.

Does anyone have any recommendations or have we all fallen by the wayside trying to learn Turkish?

Me and my husband go to Meral each week. Yes she has been teaching us the structure of Turkish more than conversational Turkish but it has helped a lot to understand the language rather than just using phrases. It has helped us to go together as I pick some things up better than my husband and vice versa so we are able to help each other at home too.

SquashMad I am sure if you had a word with Meral she would be able to fit in with your needs. Her number is 0542883 1826 if you want to ring her and discuss lessons. Good luck!

Meral is a lovely lady and as a previous poster has mentioned will cater for your needs, give her a call and visit her in Yesiltepe she will give you an insight of what she can offer. If you send me a pm I am happy to pass on copies of the lessons I have had.
