Two days ago a car drew up outside of our site and a German Shepherd dog was pushed out,
the car then drove off at high speed. This poor bewildered dog is now starving, it is a pedigree
dog, very timid and does not appear to understand english commands. It is an un neutered male
about eighteen months old. We live on the coast road below Esentepe village and the car drove off
towards Tatlisu. Our site has a no dogs policy but even if it didn't we couldn't keep such a big dog as
we are both senior citizens. Can anybody offer a solution to this problem as KAR do not cover this area.
Maybe someone knows who this dog belonged to before beinging dumped.

Unfortunately here, there is no simple answer to this problem, other than feeding it outside where it is, taking it in, or ignoring it and hope someone else will help. It is a huge problem here, with people taking in dogs that they really did not want but couldn't just leave on the streets. There is no charity that will help these poor animals, but maybe someone on this forum could help. Is there any way you could get a picture of im and post it on here. ?

Even if you don't want him, please, please feed and water him. Well away from your property so he doesn't associate food with your property, If you do this regularly he will hang about his "food" area and shouldn't bother you too much. Obviously this isn't an ideal solution, but it's better than letting a dog starve. KAR tries its very best to help as many animals as possible, but there really is a logistical and financial reason why they can't go out as far as you describe. It's so sad - we already have 4 "dumped" dogs - the latest a really tiny one. If I live to be 200 I'll never understand how anyone could have thrown her out.

Sophie is wise with her advise.

Even if its a good 5 minute walk away the dog will learn this is where it will get fed.

I myself fed a husky under the same circumstances for 2 months then eventually the dog had a happy ending and was rehomed. doesn't take much to put biscuits and water down each day.....

I still think getting a picture and putting it on here really helps in finding an animal a new home.

Thank you for your replies, my next door neighbours are at present caring for this dog
but they return to England at the beginning of February for at least a month. The problem
is, this animal is so timid you can't get anywhere near it to handle it or take photos. My
neighbour is trying to gain it's trust and hopefully over the coming days he will be able to
take some photos which I will try and post on here.

No doubt, like the poor 'returned to the street' animals here, this dog is now cold, hungry, wet, and highly traumatised by the 'earthquake', torrential rain and sudden thunderstorm we had today.

Please excuse my ignorance but can anyone explain to me, what do the initials KAR stand for?

Dalartokat, sorry to say Blue Butterfly is being sarcastic. Give KAR more money, more people to help and better still assistance from the Government, KAR would be able to go father afield than it does. If someone had the strength of purpose and belief, they might even start a BAR i.e. Bogas Animal Rescue or even GAR but they don't, so the TRNC has to contend itself with Kyrenia Animal Rescue and the staff at the centre and volunteers on the street who work tirelessly to do what they can do.

Didn't there use to be a BARK animal rescue at the other end of the island. I believe that is now defunct!!!

Well said Sophie. Blue B, how much work or fundraising do you do for animal rescue? Maybe you could start another rescue to deal with the hundreds of animals for which KAR does not have the resources to deal with. You could build and fund a massive shelter to house all the poor neuter and returns.
