PROBLEM RE-PRIVATE MESSAGES

This is to put your minds at ease over the number of private messages,some of you have received today. I don't know how it happened,but I am the guilty party. I accidentally put Heather on the Hills real name on the forum, as I know her personally. She sent me a pm asking who I was and why I did it. I have sent her a message explaining, it was a mistake. So there is no problems for anyone else!!.Hope you all sleep well now.

What I can't understand is why Heather on the Hills sent a rather strong message to me. I have never corresponded with you or her, and nor have I corresponded on the subject of TRNC post. I think there is a security problem, and I also think Soner should get involved.

I agree deeEss soner should check because i got one from a reply by some one else to owl lady saying he didnt know what she was talking about i have not be invold in the trnc post so i shouldnt have recievd that

I will say that the only people communicating were myself and Heather on the Hills. Any other pm were a hiccup in the system. Nothing sinister I can assure you. If you read other messages you will see that Soner is very involved!!

The reason many got the message was because "Kibkom Group" was added to the "Sent To" in the PM, that is all. This function has now been removed so it should not happen again. As so many PM's are being sent out there may be a delay - but you should not receive more than 2 PM's on this subject, if you do then do let me know.

I received 2 yesterday & not naming names did NOT appreciate the PM one person sent me, especially as I was totally innocent!!! & have enough problems to contend with living here in Sinai these days. Reported the problem immediately to Soner & Marion, who both very kindly told me there was a glitch. Cheers S @ M (no pun intended!!!)

Made me laugh. S & M. I try to avoid that like the plague! Not in my morality! So thanks for the laugh. Maybe it should be M & S (even though Soner is the boss), as at least that is a decent shop! (well it was until some bad publicity over a check out girl!)

There is nothing 'evil' in these private messages, but definitely a weird glitch. Soner did explain elsewhere how it happens and that 'Heather' managed to send to a 'group' of about a thousand people! Should hopefully die down now. But one good thing - this has got people chatting! So look for the good in any bad situation.

I apologise to all concerned - I was the originator of ONE of the messages (that to Owl Lady about identity) and if any of you are feeling sore at me be reassured that I have been "punished" by the fact that I have received l60 messages which I has blocked my kibcom inbox and taken me ages to remove from my email inbox (telling me Ihad received a PM!)- and I really wa under enough stress without this. IF the original misposting was an error on my part it was totally without ill intent , and it appears has been a system glitch which has profiliated this. Also that there have been other messages with which I was NOT connected (and to the best of my knowledge neither was Owl Lady), The first thing I did on realising the situation was to contact Soner by email : he responded immediately and you have been assured he is now dealing with the matter.

The message was intended for "Owl Lady" only, as she has explained, and was sent by PM to avoid publicising the incident further andblowing it out of proportion - which intention was been very throughly thwarted! I apologise for the worry people have been caused bya problem which I MAY have inadvertantly contribed to, and thank those who has the sense to realise it was a mistake, and even more those few who realise that people may have perfectly good and innocent reasons for wishing to conceal their identity.
May I point out tht ANYONE (not just members) can READ forums and many forums advise members to hide their identity.

OWL LADY: Thank you for responding so promptly. Unfortunately I have been unable to identify your PM from the many I have received and just dont have the time to go through all those in the inbox (this "incident" has cost me most of yesterday evening and a large part of this) and although I have asked Soner to help me clear it (I cant find any instructions as to how to delete messages)I doubt if I will dare use it again! I really would like to know how you identified me , so I can stop well less intentioned people doing the same. If you know me perhaps you could speak to me privately and I can explain my concerns in private. I have been told my name may have been taken from my profile, but I was under the impression that that part of information was intended only for ADministration actually for perfectly good reasons of secuirty. I did leave the "optional" areas blank.

Either way (with great regret because I have really enjoyed some of the discussions) I have decided it is too great a risk to post again, but will delay logging off for a few days in the hope of getting into contact with Owl Lady.

Owl Lady (who it turns out I have actually known for some yearsbut we had lost contact) has actually contacted me, and we have sorted things out between us.

I am very sorry what were two innocent misunderstandings or mistakes has lead to such a reaction and that people have been worried.

However I am horrified name appears on my profile. When I entered it I understood it was compulsary and for administration ONLY. I delliberately did not make any entries in the "optional" section. I do consider that this section is misleading, and suggest anyone else who may wish not to be ientified checks the entry on their profile.

I formally request that all my personal details be deleted from the profile, and as I said before you need worry about a repetition fromme as I will not be posting again.

Heather on the Hill, It's easy deleting messages, just tick all the ones you want deleted then go to the bottom and go to the tab that has mark/unmarked messages and click on tab and delete will be their.

Thanks Stellastar, but I have tried that and all it does it what it says but clicking on mark or unmarked messages just does what it says - p
laces a tick against the messages and takes it away!! I cant find anything that says "delete". What am I missing? I can find any way of deleting inividual messages, either though with l70 that would take a while.

Thanks also Joan and Jelly I have asked Soner to remove my name and email (or alternatively if that is not possible just to remove my entry completely) but nothing yet. I have tried "Edit profile" which only gives the sections I didnt fill in anyway, and "Edit Account Setting" but can find no way of deleting. I am feeling very insecure and stressed and any help appreciated.

Easiest way to remove your real name from your profile is to-
Go to the User Control Panel
click on Profile
click on Edit Account Settings
delete your name
go down the page to Confirm changes
enter your current password
press submit

If you need more help to do this please just ask.

Do not be concerned about your email address being in your profile, it is NOT visible to other members. The email function on this board works without the members seeing individuals email addresses.
Do not worry about removing all the PM's that were sent from your account - even if you do remove them from your sent box they will still be in the recipients inbox so it would be a waste of your time and effort.

Now stop worrying; anyone can make a mistake and you are not responsible for the way that the board processes are set up.

Very many thanks for the instructions, Darrener, it looks as if I havesucceded at last. The reason it didnt before was I did not enter my password, which was because the instructions said I did not need to do so unless I was changing IT (my capitals) and I assumed "it" was the password. I will never understand computer speak!

I STILL cannot see anything that indicates the real name is voluntary, nor that it will be displayed for anyone who has access to a computer tosee. I do recommmend anyone who is concerned about revealing identity (and there are many good reasons not to) should check and if necessary follow the instructions above

I would still like to know how to delete the large number of incoming emails in my box as it they are blocking the box.

I would still like to know how to delete the large number of incoming emails in my box as it they are blocking the box.

Go to your private messages using the link at the op of the page that says 'Private messages'

Then near the very bottom right of the page click on 'Mark All' - this will put a 'tick mark' next to all the messages shown. Just un-tick any you do not want to delete.

Then also near the bottom right of the screen click on the little down arrow / chevron symbol to the right of where it says "Mark/Unmark as important" and select "Delete Marked" from the drop down menu. Then just click where it says "go" just to the right of the drop down menu you just selected. This should delete all the marked (ticked) messages.
