Hi We are coming over 20th June. We have arranged to buy a car off private sellers but have to complete within a week of arriving as they are going back to UK on 27th.
What is the process of buying a car? and can it be done in a week?
Many thanks for any help
Brend

I bought a car privately as well, the original owners left TRNC before I got here and left the car with a friend. They gave me the number of a guy who is dealing with the registration for me, he charges a fee for doing this, if you want his name and number send me a mail or pm, and I will pass on his details.

The seller has to go to the local muhtar and get a form confirming he is the owner of the car then you both go to the licence office in Lefkosia with the log book and your passports they will stamp the log book and add your name then you pay a fee about 200ytl.

You can also get the form from a Noter. Once the form has been signed and witnessed (by Muhtar or Noter) then the buyer alone can go to the tax office in Lefkosa (with the log book), pay the fee and Bob's your Uncle. If you are buying the car from an expat it is vital that you have a copy of their passport, the number of which was recorded on the log book. If the passport and log book don't match (i.e. passport has been renewed since) you will not be able to get the log book in your name. For this reason, you should establish that a copy will be available well in advance of you arriving. We had a problem with this a few years ago and the seller had to get a letter from the UK passport office that confirmed all his old passport numbers.
