As has been said before, it's a risky situation, as some people in the driving licence place say you have to have a residency stamp, and others get away with a Muhtars letter confirming where they live.

I wouldn't dream of not renewing my residency if only because of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing over here!!

The BRS are adamant you only need a Mukthars letter to renew your licence.

I don't think the word 'adamant' applies. Look at their web site and also on Thursday coming's KibKom Times where their update on Over 60-'s will be printed. One needs tolook at the whole picture and decide what is best for oneself, but like others, it is foolish to not have residency if this is one's main home.

Mollie the Cat, the BRS state that you do not need residency for to renew your D/L. They do not advise one way or the other if it is a good idea to let your residency lapse. The reason being, I would suggest is they do not know what the future holds, that is why I agree with others above to maintain residency because who knows what will happen next.
My view on residency is that when we moved here we knew there was an annual fee to stay here and nothing has changed.

Each to their own I guess, we have been here nearly 10yrs, last year was the first year I didn't renew, don't see any advantage in doing so.
