The car accident was not in Arapkoy it was on main road lefkosa-Guzelyurt. Turkeli bend. The car coming from opposite direction had lost control just after the bend and hit the barriers, the impact made the car flip over on to the other side of oncoming traffic and landed on to the car where there were 4 women ( 3 who died and one seriously injured), the car then carried on and hit another car with 3 passengers who were slightly injured. I think you have seen photos of missing car roof that was where they cut the roof off to get the passengers out. The women who have died are not at fault even if they were going fast as they did not cause any accident, you don't just expect a car to come flying at you and land on your roof. All the info I have given is from the news. Not sure where you got the info from but pretty much wrong.
Plus your comment about blood is not appropriate

Typical case Neka, of some one saying what they see , without checking first, & no thought for the pers concerned.

I never said it was their fault.
I don't no who was driving which car, my father on law told me about it but he don't speak much English so I just watched the news.
But 1 of the girls is from arapköy as cousins with him.
Very sad news.

Whatever the semantics this is another needless statistic. It is obvious looking at photos elsewhere this is the result of dangerous driving at speed and unless someone in power stands up and deals with the lack of prosecutions and draconian sentences the slaughter will continue.
Looking at this accident, if the facts are correct and it is a crossover it may be any of us who end up in the morgue next through no fault of our own.

Have to agree with you CyprusatHome. It was more luck than judgement that we didn't end up as another statistic, due to some idiot on the mountain road who decided to overtake a row of cars following a lorry on the other side of the road.

So nobody would attribute any of the blame to poor central barriers on that particular road then? The height of the central barrier is just about dead right to make a car fly into the air if it strikes it. Not saying whose fault it was but it is the same sort of accident that used to happen in the UK before they started using Armco on the central reservations. For me it is a case of very poor road building, roads built by people who just do not understand the dynamics of vehicles. Sad, because it will happen again even if it is just one car having a front wheel blow out!!

Have to agree with Waddo in regards to some of this comments.
I popped into a local garden centre today and was talking to the owner who knew all of the people killed in this
tragic accident and was visibly upset.
Having taken my lessons/test here I gave him my honest opinion on the standard of the test etc and commented that it was not surprising there were so many accidents and fatalities here. He agreed but stated that the location of this particular accident was a well known black spot and also made the comments that Waddo has in regards to the poor central barriers and also the lack of lighting on this stretch of road.
He said that the bend had always been a problem and that in the past cars that had been involved in accidents there had tended to fly off the road.

waddo, While I accept your comments regarding barriers and that the road may not be perfect, the chief component of accidents of the sort above is excessive speed and dangerous driving.
If I remember correctly the speed on that stretch of road is 100kph or about 62mph which with most modern cars there should be no problem but we all know that on any straightish dual carriageway............. obviously blow outs or mechanical failure are "accidents" and unforeseen (maybe not given the so called MOT).
Maybe the government should save money on erecting half useful crash barriers and tackle the real problem of diabolical driver training and recruit a few dozen traffic police to "terrorise" the bad drivers.

Am so sorry that such a tragic accident has occurred, and my sincere condolences to the families of those who have died.
Can we keep conjecture from this thread please? We don't know what happened, and it is bound to be upsetting if any of the people who were involved, or have suffered a bereavement read this thread.

Maybe some of these ideas could be passed on to the government to express concern for the people of Cyprus and their lifestyle. At the end of the day accidents happen and cause great pain to those who suffer in any way through them. But also most governments are always looking at ways to improve life for their people, and sometimes it takes a bit of outside observation to help them see where things oculd be changed.
I have heard that the young lady, Dilek who was taken to hospital is still in a critical condition, and I am sure all KibKomers would send their love and support to the family at this time, and also pray for Dilek.

Totally agree with your comments.
Thoughts should be with all the victims/family and friends of this terrible tragedy.
None of us were there and it's unfair that people should automatically assume that excessive speed and dangerous driving were involved.

Marion you are right in that we all sympathise with the families and each in our own ways will pray for the victims.
The problem is that many of these incidents are not accidents, they are totally preventable. After living here for 8 years it is no longer a surprise to read about such incidents. We all see people driving without seat belts, unrestrained children in front and back seats, driving while using mobile phone, etc, etc, so for the benefit of toastlady that is why many hammer away on these forums in the hope that one day the government brain cell will finally click to what is happening. It is not disrespect to the families but a hope that as a result of their despair some good may happen.

Indeed. One can always hope that out of the bad comes the good. lessons are learned from 'mistakes' and that lives can be save d in the future.
Also agree that to hypothesize on the cause of the accident is perhaps out of place. One doe snot know if brakes failed, or something broke, or even that the driver did not have a stroke or heart attack, or, or, or - it is conjecture and none of us know. What is always the sad thing is that innocent people get maimed or killed. Whatever the cause of the accident, those who have died cannot be brought back. Unfortunatley, accidents are part of our lives and with advancing technology they seem more present. Not so long ago one could walk in the middle of the road in Cyprus and perhaps be bashed by a passing donkey running too fast! The advent of the car in great abundance has amost caught some of the population by surprise.
I remember in U.K men being given full driving licences because they drove a milk cart! Goodness knows what would have happened if they went behind the wheel of a real car! But eventually things change. Here things will, and as I said, I hope that good comes out of this horrible incident.
