Soner's Book - I must recommend it!
I absolutely must recommend this book to anyone who is interested in Cyprus and her history.
I laughed with the little boy when he got into mischief and cried when I read about Serdarli (where is it please?) Did anyone ever live there again or is it an abandoned village?
I have been reading now for 4.5 hours and have just got to chapter 13 Visiting a mysterious friend).
I will feel lost when I have finished the book - I have read extensively about Cyprus but to read a book from the perspective of an 8 year old little boy was incredible.
Well done to you Soner for a real achievement in writing this book in an unbiased way.

Oops - sorry, I did not realise that there was already a thread running. Is there any way that my comments can be transferred to that thread and this one closed? Once again, sorry.

Sue, thanks for your nice comments, glad you are enjoying the read. Serdali is about 3 villages west of Gecitkale, old name was Çatoz. People still living there and village has grown since.

Re: Soner's Book - I must recommend it!
I can really relate to and empathise with Soner's book as much of my childhood was spent on the streets of London and in the 60s and 70s I spent time with the UN and with a resident Batalion in Cyprus. Apple trees for scrumping were hard to find in London in the 1950s but perhaps I got there before Soner had the chance. His accounts of the troubles in Cyprus are in no way exaggerated and the atrocities which he encountered and heard of reflect precisely what I had to witness in those awful years. In spite of this I still share with my family a love of Cyprus and it's people. They deserve better leadership both sides of the divide and better consideration from the current so called world powers. Soner's book should be compulsary reading for all politicians of the world. It would achieve more than the 40 years of fruitless negotiations to date. I must learn how to put this on twitter !

Thanks DAVPAT
Honeybee, you can only buy online in the UK at the moment.
Either: Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Soner-Kioufi/e/ ... dp_epwbk_0
or http://www.thegreenline.co.uk
Still trying hard to get into big chain stores, if anyone can pull some strings will be much appreciated.

Whilst Soner's book is to be recommended, another TRNC related book I have almost finished is "Getting a life in North Cyprus" by Adrian Fleetwood, and what a great read,we are contemplating retiring in TRNC,and this book gave a great insight into the life of TRNC for anyone interested, like Soner's book,it is available on Amazon.
By the way,the author lives in Ozankoy.
