Embargoed Forum Demise

Although not a member, I occasionally visited Embargoed forum and was aware that it hasn't been available for several days. According to Cyprus Today it has been closed because of "continued fighting and abusive remarks by different members". Not a great loss I would have said BUT there must be some danger that these individuals will now join Kibkom and this is my plea to the mods to make sure that we don't suffer the same fate.

If these people could be prevented from joining so much the better but I appreciate that this is virtually impossible to achieve unless somebody knows the real names or email addresses of the miscreants. Also, I suppose, everybody should be given the chance to reform. But I would be very disappointed if this forum, which I value very highly, got dragged down to the level witnessed recently on Embargoed.

I don't doubt that the mods will try their best, but the rest of us should recognise the danger and perhaps be a little tolerant if the mods are over zealous for a time.

You will find that those posting on embargoed are already members of this forum and if you check the member list here you will quickly find most of them. Some use different names on here for their own reasons but be assured they are here and posting, regularly in some cases.

My opinion on those so called discussions was that if you do not like them do not get involved either posting or reading the threads and stick with what you want to talk about. Let the half dozen involved just get on with it!

Do not worry, we are on top of things here on Kibkom and any trouble makers will be banned with immediate effect - no warning, no reasons given.

Members can help by advising us if they see any trouble brewing. Just click on the "Exclamation Mark" at the bottom right of each post to report it.

Could they not have barred these people from the forum? Seems a bit extreme to shut it down but what do I know.

Deniz1, not easy running a forum with running costs, protection and trying to keep the peace. Has made me wonder at times as to whether it is all worth it.

I believe Embargoed! have removed a big weight off their shoulders by closing it down - totally understand the relief they must feel. It really is not as simple as it all may look. I spend 365 days a year dealing with accepting members and refusing spammers entry.

Thanks Munchkin. Di you know you can change the colour of the forum? Just wondered as you are using the green template.

Owl Lady, you can increase the size of the forum content. If you have a mouse with a wheel, hold down Ctrl button and push wheel on mouse up, you will see page increase in size.

One of the last comments I saw on there was from one of the mods, Rowlo, who said," well we like to let conversations / threads run free without interfering. "

So which would you rather have, a moderated forum or no forum at all?

Actually, it was going the way of the 44 board, make a posting trying to inform of something you found useful, and in came the sarcastic few who had to open their mouths regardless of the real non-value of their contributions. Learn their lesson? Don't make me laugh.

From a moderators perspective; we are aware there are some people out there who may well try to bend or flout the forum rules, however we do keep a very close watch on postings and if necessary take action.

This forum has been going for a fair while now and whilst we are not perfect with our moderating we do try to be consistent. I personally prefer to nip things in the bud quickly to prevent things escalating. If this requires a post to be edited, deleted or in extreme cases a person banned for a short or permanent time then so be it. For very persistent offenders or those who have not heeded a warning then posts are removed/deleted with no explanation - sometimes trying to explain an action to these people results in further insults. As Soner has explained, if anyone feels a posting is outside the rules or has concerns about the way a topic is going they can highlight it to a moderator so we are aware.

Overall tho the majority of Kibkom members post responsibly and also as many have said this is a happy site with good debate, advice and exchanges of news and information and long may it continue.

I think Soner & Poshin Devon have covered everything, they have got this forum operating in a way that they as moderators are happy with. We may on occasions think they are wrong by cutting off or deleting a thread but without them we would not have a forum. Like arguing with a football or rugby referee once the decision is made that should be it, just move on. Argue with a rugby referee and it is 10 minutes in the bin and that is this forum. With football referees, that is more like embargoed snarling and growling at every decision.

Just got into this. Some moderator I am that I have not seen this before. Thanks Soner and PoshinDevon for what has been said, but one thing I like as a Moderator (who can sometimes make mistakes -but not too often I hope, is that as Moderators we try to protect the forum and the members from any harm, and hide very happily behind the rule "Respect The Forum Moderators Kibkom Forum Moderators have the final say. They do not need to explain their actions."

This rule is , as I say, not to give us unnecessary power, but to ensure that the Forum is a goo d place to be. I was deeply upset to see that E! closed as I know the person who started it and he is a very honourable journalist and it is very sad that what was meant to be a healthy replacement for Cyprus 44 (togheter with others, including us, caused such headaches and hurts. Very sad indeed.

So even more important that we can keep going for the good of all. I know what Soner means about the headaches and I know he spends a huge amount of time ensuring that we do not have spammers and hence all the members are genuine people.

I personally would like to say a huge 'Thank you' to all the KibKomers who make this a good place to be.

I was a member of embargoed forum. Although there weren't many posters the two or three causing friction are well known. One of them had just returned from a ban, I think he lives in Cambodia or somewhere in that neck of the woods, if you believe him. One of the others portrays herself a some jailed old bird from Coronation Street. It's ok saying ignore them but they monopolised every thread. Hopefully they won't be allowed on here.

Often it is difficult to ignore those that seem to want to have an opinion on everything and monopolise every thread, however I would suggest that you try to ignore. Anyone with any concerns can just contact any moderator and we will investigate further. Unfortunately a very small minority do seem to want to be the centre of attention and any response to them via a forum thread can often "feed' them more fuel and so the derogatory and unhelpful comments follow.

However; this rarely happens on Kibkom and even if it does start it is usually nipped in the bud very quickly.

Thought talking to yourself like that 'jail bird from coronation street ' as mentioned in post 19 by KWAKERT4 must be a very sad person really.

Would the moderators on here let any poster take a platform like on that demised forum?

Dont want to many maduns on here ,.

Not so much territorial, but more familial. I do think that due to all the hard work by Soner we have a 'family' that can squabble but lovingly. Hope it stays that way.

Anyone is welcome tojoin, but of course if they break the rules, then one of the rules is 'banned without notice'. Easy really. But it is time consuming to watch every posting, as the last thing we want is for anyone to be offended or hurt.

So ye,s I hope it stays as a wlel run family, with disagreements that can be sorted just as in any truly loving family. As the Beatles used to say 'All you need I is love.

Anyone know of a shop where I can by a few kgs of it?

Kibkom internet forum is in the real world, its here and is thriving.

The forum itself is never going to be perfect, but compared to others that have gone previously this forum up to now has stood the test of time well.

Of course just like families we do not all agree, it would be a boring place if we did. However; healthy debate and exchanging of views is much appreciated as long as the rules are adhered to.

I am sure that everyone on the forum also has a real life, but like to come and share information, views and experiences. We should also consider that some people posting on this forum may live alone and especially at this time of the year when then weather may not be to good (Well here in the UK it isn't that good!), the Kibkom forum is useful for maintaining contact with others and finding out what is happening in North Cyprus.

Agree we are not a physical family but I feel sure plenty on here would embrace the term "internet" family....one that you can choose to be part of or leave at anytime (Which may well be seen by some as an advantage!)

Enjoy the Kibkom for what it is.
