I was wondering if any cypriot citizens born in the uk have ever got a greek passport or kimlik card?? I have lost my british passport and as i dont know which documents to send with it to get my new one and i dont want to send my kimlik card off, maybe it would be easier to get a greek passport and sort out my english passport when i finally go back to the uk. I no that when cypriots go to get there greek passport they need there parents passport numbers to and if they dont then they can have trouble getting it as my husband is having trouble with that. Only my dad has a greek passport but he is turkish cypriot and as my mum is english so doesnt does this mean i can not get it? If any one has any information on this or have done it them selfs please let me know thanks.

My Husband is a TC and has a ROC passport, I'm a New Zealander. We went to see about myself and the kids getting RoC passports and ID cards as it would make travel a lot easier. We were told as my son was born in Cyprus he could get his passport but as myself and daughter were born in NZ we would have to go to the greek embassy in NZ and get Greek Cypriot birthCert issued. then come back and do the paper work. I think you will have to do everything here as they check all the details against their old records that aren't on computer. You will need your father passport and birth Cert.
I couldn't be bother with all the hassle. hope this helps

Both my parents are TCs and when borders opened both of them as well as my sister were able to get their papers easily, but as I was born in Istanbul, my case was a bot more complicated as it involved the 'naturalization' process of people with TC ancesrty, rather than the easy route. I had to provide a lot more papers as well as appear in court once to get them to approve it until it was done.

Tanya,
Its been 10 years, but as far as I remember, the birth certificate I had from here was not accepted. I had to get one from Turkey to apply, I had all other documents, my fathers, my mothers etc. The whole thing took about 6 months, not that I was running around for it everyday, it was for applying and getting papers, court dates etc. My parents did most of the running around at that time, asking me to tag along when I was personally needed, we did not get any outside help.

As you say you have lost your British passport, surely it would be far easier to ring the British High Commission and find out how to get a replacement?

Tanyaahmet - I seriously do recommend you visit the RoC Immigration Ministry in Lefkosa to outline your case and seek their 'expert' opinion. Views of forum members are not likely to be able to answer your query. Failing that, visit the British High Commission and ascertain how you can replace your UK Passport, even if it is only a temporary one to facilitate travel.

If you intend to remain in the TRNC then you will need to reply for a new passport through the British High Commission in the North, if you intend to travel back to the UK soon then the British High commission can provide with a emergency travel document to get you back to the UK.
As for getting a RoCyprus passport and ID as long as you can prove that one of your parents of of Cypriot origin, you are eligible to apply. You must first obtain your parents Cyprus passport or Birth certificates, even if they have not had one for a long time, the passport office in Nicosia can provide you with one for them which shows their old Cypriot ID No. In order to obtain one you will to know your mothers maiden name as well. If you need help with going the passport office, if you cross from Ledra palas there are taxis that will take you directly at around €6 each way. But how do you intend to cross if you do not have a passport. Also if you have TRNC ID card on that will have details of your parents names and place of birth which will help at the passport office.

to help speed up the process if you already have a British Birth certificate here with you, take it as that will help speed things up, and any documents belonging to your parents as you say his passport will help a great deal. My aunts daughters son is also born in the UK and last year got the Cyprus ID and passport, his father is from Turkey but mother is Cypriot.
