Smarties Campaign

We are launching a new fundraising campaign which involves Smarties!

This week we have been taking into schools tubes of Smarties which are being distributed to the children on Thursday and Friday (27th & 28th Feb), the children can eat the Smarties and once the tube is empty they must refill the tubes with as many 50kr coins, collected from family and friends, as possible over a 2 week period.

The return date of these tubes is 13th March and every child that returns a Smarties tube FULL of 50kr coins will go into a draw with a chance to win a great prize!

We must stress that every 50kr coin is important so whatever the child collects is very much appreciated.

In the Girne area; ESK Secondry, GAU and Necat British College are supporting us and in Lefkosa; Levent Elementary, Levent College, NEU Elementary, NEU College and TED College are all taking part and we cannot thank them enough for their enthusiasm in getting behind this campaign.

We are extremely lucky in so far as we have an anonymous sponsor who has donated 5,000TL towards the cost of 5,364 tubes of Smarties.

If you see any child collecting 50kr coins you will know what it is for and hopefully you will help them achieve a full tube (which is 54 coins).

I would like to volunteer to eat the smarties, thus making way for coins !.

@ mimi78 - thank you for your very kind offer but I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you are in a very long line of volunteers

Unfortunately we could not get 1TL coins in the tubes - they just didn't quite fit

Good news for the adults (and I just made this up).

Nothing to stop any of you/us buying Smarties, eating them and filling up with coins. Don't let the kids beat you to it! Be there first - and why not make it a weekly habit!

Sorry Sue and Carole for butting in, but seeing as there is such a long queue of volunteers to eat the Smarties (to save the children's waist line,s no doubt)m I think it should be official that it is O.k. to DIY on this one.

Watcha fink?

Where can we buy Smarties "up here"? Don't eat them but have a load of 5 kurus coins looking for a worthy home!!

Watcha mean 'up here'. I thought they were sold in Lemar etc, etc. Put it on your shopping list, and then if you don't want to eat them share them with the local kids and then you have a place for the money you have.

See, always an answer!!!!!

Smarties are available in just about all the supermarkets and cost about 1.80TL per tube (I think), if anyone wishes to buy a tube and collect 50kr coins for us then we will be very happy

Anyone wishing to get involved can deliver the tubes with the coins in to our stall at Chateau Lambousa or either of the two Best Seller Bookstores.

Owl lady - we can certainly help you find a home for all your 'shrapnel', please send a private message with your phone number and we will arrange to meet up.

Thanks to everyone for showing support and interest in this campaign, we really do appreciate it.
