Neutering dogs

Can anyone give me an idea how much it costs to neuter a dog? There is a beautiful stray which appeared on our development a while ago and is fed by the workers. He is not neutered and I wonder if any of the vets offer a scheme for neutering strays or if anyone could give me any advice?

This is exactly the sort of case that KAR is there for. Ring them on 0533 869 40 98 and ask for their advice. I would warn you that as a male he will not be a priority i.e. females about to give birth and females with pups go to the top of the list. If KAR were to take him on he would be neutered and then returned and it could take a few weeks for him to come to the top of the list. Vets have just increased their fees, but most now charge in the region of 110tl+ I believe for a male dog if you wanted to speed things up and do it yourself. It's a very simple procedure and any of them could do it without any problems. Hope this helps and you're quite right to want to have him "done". He'll not get into fights with other dogs over a roaming female which hasn't been speyed.

We had some semi ferral cats on our site, who were having frequent litters of kittens. KAR do not come out to Esentepe but they gave us some vouchers to get the female cats spayed. If you phone KAR they might be able to offer you a voucher which will help with the cost. I am not certain but I have heard that KAR have their own vetinery clinic now.

I am not sure you should be advocating DIY castrations there Sophie!

... just my thought to sophie- DIY ???
and what do you mean KAR does not go to Esentepe? I thought they were located right in the corner of Esentepe from Catalkoy area...
Good luck to the doggie!

You are right that KAR shelter is nearer Esentepe than Kyrenia or Alsancak but it definitely does not cover Esentepe when it comes
to animals in need. When I asked why they didn't cover this area I was told that KAR stands for Kyrenia Animal Rescue and we are not classed
as Kyrenia. I expect their funds would not cover all of the TRNC and so have to have a policy of covering only a certain area.

I think you will find that vets costs more than 110 tl. for a dog to be neutered. For a female its 350 tl, so although cheaper for a male, I don't think it's that cheap.

I shall retired suitably chastised for my bad grammar that lost something in translation. The KAR office is on the Karakum road and the Center is in Arapkoy. It is based there because KAR was offered the land by the Forestry Commission. KAR does have a clinic now, but as yet no Vet in situ.

just had our male dog done, the cost was 200tl. We are in Lefkosa but I think the costs are normally pretty standard.

Thanks for the answer. It makes sense K-Kyrenia...
I'm just in thoughts about now there should be a animal center for each major city. The animals in Kyrenia are probably better taken care of than other parts, so most animals have come to Kyrenia for help and a better future
