Private Messages

I have just sent a PM to a member to whom I have sent previously. The system says it was sent, but looking at my sent messages it's not there? I look at my out box there is a No.1 there, all very confusing. Any ideas anyone please?

It stays in outbox until the other person actually logs in to receive it. It moves to 'sent' after that.
I agree that it is confusing

Cheers Kemal,
Didn't know that, you are right it's a bit confusing? Must be great to be techno savy unlike dummies like me!

It took me yonks to find that out - I began to suspect it was on a need to know basis!!! I'll leave KB to explain, because I'm sure I'll just make it more confusing for you but it's right down at the bottom of all your pm's somewhere.

Deleting a Private Message is a 4 step procedure:
1. Click on the checkbox of the message(s) you like to delete on the right hand side of every message from the list
2. Use the drop down menu at the bottom of the page and choose 'Delete Marked'. Default of this dropdown menu is 'Mark/Unmark as important'.
3. Click on the Go button next to the dropdown menu.
4. You will be asked for confirmation, click Yes.
Check attached image for further clarification.

Thanks. Why so complicated though?

Thanks Kemal for helping out, sorry did not see this post in time.
Deleting mail is not much different from deleting mail from any usual webmail account - apart from the dropdown menu to select "delete".

1. I am sure people who designed this didnt think it was complicated at all.
2. How would we make money if it was so simple for everybody?

You are correct soner. The mass control/delete feature is pretty similar to most other places. I think the confusion lies with the fact that after you check on 'mark', you need to know that the dropdown menu at the bottom includes a delete option, otherwise the procedure is not so obvious. In places of a dropdown menu for 2 options and a go button; I would say 2 buttons, one for Importance Marking and one for 'Delete Selected' would make things a lot more obvious.
Also the PM is lacking a simple single 'delete' button that you see in most other places. When I click on a PM to read, after I am done and no longer need the message, instead of having to go back to the list and follow 4 steps of work from the list, a delete button on top/bottom of the message would be practical.
Anyway, not end of the world, just a few design recommendations

I now have an inbuilt fear of PMs after my problems recently with "Heather on the Hill"!!

Owl lady - forgot all about that, you really should not worry - I shouldn't happen again.
Kemal - when I have some free time (if), then I will look into making some changes where possible.
