Should Turkish Cypriots and E.U nationals living in the TRNC participate in the E.U Elections on May 25th?
if yes, in what position.
1) Only in Observer status within the E.P with no voting rights?
or
2) Be fully represented with it's own MEPs with voting rights?

British naitonals is one thing and TC citizens areanother. I think that those who hold EU passports should be allowed to vote wherever they may be. Non EU passport holders isanother matter.

So,l I think that EU PASSPORTS HOLDERS SHOULD VOTE - BUT HOW.
Other residents of TRNC should be allowedto be observers
As to being fully represented, it is a curly one. I believe that we are in the EU but as 'occupied territory' we cannot have EU rights. If we did then we EU Passports holders should have the right to seek and obtain work without a work permit.
But I would be interested to learn what others think.

Oh and how many KibKomers want to be in the EU>???

Hi Marion,

Not sure what you mean by British Nationals being one thing TC being another? the bottom line is they are both EU citizens.

at present the Government in the south has made arrangements for TC with South ID/Passports eligible to vote in the elections, but none can stand as candidates unless they reside in the south and registered in the south voters list.
For other EU nationals, the EU office is working with the south Government to find a way to vote in the elections, so you might get your chance to vote. if they pass the bill in time.

It will not be long before you will be free from applying for work/Resident permit as in the next 12 months their is every chance for a referendum
for a Federal United Cyprus and EU rules will then apply for all as Immigration will fall under the federal government.
After Speaking with Kudret Ozersay yesterday that is the case as that has already been agreed, so no talks will take place on that subject.

when you say other Tc residents should be allowed observer status, I am not sure what you mean by that, we either choose as Tc to be observers or we elect MEPs to the European parliament, we cannot have both, over 90,000 Tc hold ID/Passports, and by the way these are not all actual TC but 29000+ are mainland Turks who are married to Tc, They were granted back in 2004/2005 but the south has since suspended this law, mainland Turks can still get the ID based on marriage to Tc only if they enter Cyprus via Larnaca and live in the south for 6 months.

I would like to see other comments from the Britsh / EU expats living in the north, as this also effects them.

To all EU Nationals in Cyprus.
I know that majority of the expats are not in favor of the EU and the Euro but I strongly urge all EU Nationals specially for those living in the south to register for voting by the deadline 2nd of April 2014, to be able to use your right as EU Citizens to vote in the MEP Elections. As a British Cypriot running in this elections, I want to serve all EU Nationals in Cyprus, and get their views and concerns into the open at the European Parliament but in order to do this, I need your support.
