My temporary residency ran out 10 days ago, I have started the process of renewing but it wont be ready until next Friday (14th March). Will I be able to cross to the South in the meantime? Has anyone done this recently?
Many thanks

I was told you could show the receipt showing you have paid for the tests and they will let you through but it really is suck it and see!
Tell the old man his bit will arrive on the 26th, hope that is ok

Personal experience and knowledge of others wanting to do this, the answer is no. The only way you can leave the country with expired visa and residency is a letter from the police. Two issues with this (a) do you want to be bothered and (b) I do not think the police will be too happy that you bothered to get what amounts to an emergency cover just to go shopping.
No doubt some one will come along and give an opposing example but that would just prove the point............!!!!!

A couple of years ago you had a seven day period of grace after residency expiring when you could still cross. That suddenly changed and without the current residency stamp you could go across BUT you were told that you would be fined when you came back. We didn't take that option and luckily found a taxi with seats available, at the crossing, that was willing to continue the Larnaca journey with our disabled friend on board. No arguing that the paperwork was with immigration changed the response!
