Went to Kibtek yesterday, to get my electricity bill in my own name and was charged 470 TL for the privilege, unbelievable!

Is this correct, or have I been charged for something else? as it seems exccessive even for here for just swapping a name over.

I think its more to do with the meter responsibility than a name on the bill.

I had the same after a move so now have been charged that amount twice. They did tell me that it was a deposit and had I kept all the paperwork I could have got the original amount back. So make sure you keep all the paperwork incase you need to get it back.
I think mine may have been 400tl at the time which represented about £150 so with the exchange rate at least it was less pounds.

i think you will find that most of that amount is a deposit, when you sell and the new owner wants to take it over you go to kibtek with the new owner to get them on the bill, you give kibtek your receipt and after a few weeks there is a cheque for you i think you also get interest on the amount but cannot be sure as i did it a long time ago

Consider yourself lucky .. To get the bill changed to our name when the exchange rate was about 2.3TL to the pound, it cost me £1720 .. £550 of this was for an electrician to check out the electrics in the house before Kibtek came ..
A cool £1170 went into Kibtek coffers .. Dick Turpin can't hold a candle to Ali Baba & his 40 thieves ..

Done the same last month as we have now bought our villa but when we first rented last April they wanted 1410TL as not the owner, luckily I didn't have enough money on me at the kibtec offices and the estate/letting agent stood guarantor as he had a kimlik card and only paid a third (470TL). We then had to wait 4 months for the cheque as they don't transfer the deposit to another property and we wanted the money back before we shelled out again!

I paid a metre deposit of 400tl in 2004, when I cancelled last year I got 674tl back.
