Sad update about (Un) Lucky

I am really sad to report the latest news about (Un) Lucky. She has had to be put to sleep.
We had noticed recently that her behaviour was becoming more worrying. She has become very space protective and this had extended to being food aggressive. She was also becoming very unsocial with the other dogs - despite us trying new kennel friends for her. There were a few occasions when she had displayed aggression to members of staff but Centre staff felt there were other circumstances that may have played their part in that (we hoped).
Very recently her behaviour had become seriously worse and this culminated in a serious attack on another dog. It continued to serious aggression on the staff who were trying to deal with the situation. Following assessments and lengthy discussions it was felt that it was unlikely that a new home would be found for Lucky (especially following such ongoing problematic behaviour). It was also felt that everything had been tried by staff,at the Centre, to help Lucky adjust - to no avail. She just didn't like being there in that environment. She was very unhappy and was exhibiting that through her behaviour. Her behaviour was such that KAR could not envisage that it would alter in the Centre environment nor could we risk sending her to a new home (if one could be found in any event !) in case her aggression continued there.
It is always with great regret that decisions like this are taken, but in Lucky's situation, there really seemed no alternative.
Everyone at KAR is upset about it and no doubt forum members will be too. But we have to accept that although we try our best - for some dogs (and cats) it simply is not enough. We hope that Lucky is finally at peace. RIP Lucky .
