Can you buy insurance for 1 day going South?

Someone mentioned that they thought it was possible to buy insurance for 1 day for a trip down South. Anyone know if this is possible and if so, how much is the daily rate?

No you cannot. The minimum is one month which is €25.

Carrierbag,
Thanks for the reply - do you know that for a fact, i.e. have you asked?

Yes it is a fact. They abolished the shorter terms. Youused to be able to get a week (and I think three days and one day) but now it is a minimum of a month. So, yes that is true and a fact. YOu can take out longer, but there is no real saving.

Shame - I would be quite happy to pay 5 euros for one day so they could make a killing. We do buy a month's insurance now and again but don't really make much use of it.

Agree. That is why I don't buy it. To go over once for something and pay 25 euros for the joy of it, is not within our budget. But maybe you could find people, as I do sometimes that will take you in their car. I always offer petrol money, but so far no one has accepted it! I never used to mind buying the short period, but one month is relaly only O.K. if you know you are going to go over several times.
Maybe one day they will change it again, but for now, it is definitely a no no. The only other option is to walk over at Ledra Street and then get a taxi or bus.

We could start a going south group and post on here I would happily pay for petrol to go every so often.

It will be interesting if the settlement happens this year! Take a look at the costs of car insurance coming North from the South and just try to figure out why they can have a years insurance for less than three months going North to South????
Lots of things will have to change I feel.

I go occasionally and pay for one month. I always make sure that I go again at least once during that month. I don't mind taking a passenger or two (I've taken the lovely Marions twice) I drive a 7 seater but usually have the back two flat, as it costs 35 euros if I don't.
Going to a wedding in UK tonight/tomorrow morning but will be back in a coupla weeks.

Waddo - you would not be required to buy a separate insurance after any unification, as there will NOT be any borders.
All insurance companies north and south will be competing to keep their clients and offering better policies.

Probably being naive, but how can you have to separate "communities" without a border? What is to stop "Greeks bearing gifts" (i.e. arms) causing in the North?

Northern Ireland/rest of UK is an example.
