North Cyprus to become Turkey's "back garden" for abortions?

This caught my eye this morning:
http://www.ntvmsnbc.com/id/25356012/
Dr. Suphi Hüdaoğlu, president of the North Cyprus Doctors' Association, has warned that if Ankara goes ahead and takes away women's rights to have abortions, then many women will come to Cyprus for the procedure. The doctors' association feel mainlanders will then see CTR as Turkey's "arka bahçesi" (back garden) for abortions. They feel this will further tarnish CTR's image, which they feel many mainlanders currently see merely as the place to go to for gambling following Turkey's ban on casinos in the 90s.

Hüdaoğlu went on to say that, if Ankara tries to also get abortions banned in CTR, then the population's "tepkisi" (reaction) here will be "çok büyük". He hoped that Ankara will also not ban abortions in Turkey.

Any thoughts?

Hi Andrew,
Not certain if banning abortion is an example of the AKP's "back door" policy - this has been the main item in the news (in Turkey, that is) for the last week. Unless that is, you are referring to a "back door" to the "back garden"
I do, however, agree that it is another sign of the AKP's real agenda.

I agree Andrew.

With regards to abortion, I think most of us feel (although not a desirable procedure) abortion should ultimately be the woman's choice.

However, what about the stance of the North Cyprus Doctor's Association? Some might say strange, because of the revenue it would bring in to northern Cyprus ... and the opportunities it would offer to some of the association's own members. Would it be that bad for CTR to be thought of as a place for abortions to be carried out?

It is the woman's choice!! Nobody made much of a fuss, when England was one of the places people came to for abortions that were not possible in their own country.
I do not have a problem with this. Better than the olden days, when woman had to go to unmentionable places.

Remember many women/girls from Catholic Ireland go over to Britain for an abortion - so we condone it- and presumably make more money from it, as British women can have it done on the NH and so not pay!!!
Women come to Gazi Magusa for IVF treatment as it is cheaper here - why not the opposite???? Do we work to two codes?

In most cases now it is a pill taken for the abortion. Thank goodness.
I wonder what the cut off date is for abortions in NC.
Unfortunitly it is not the womans choice if it is not legal in the country she is living in, ( unless she can go somewhere where it is legal ).
