Has anyone done this? On the internet it talks about showing passport and visas to prove that you normally live abroad outside the EU.
A VAT reclaim form provided by the retailer is also needed.
Is the above all that is required?
The Residency stamp presumably helps!

Genghis, VAT claim for goods going to non eu countries can be done quite easly at all UK airports, but let me give you a some further information.
There is a system called global blue, there web page is
http://www.globalblue.com if you sign up with them they will send you card with membership, the card is free. once you have the card just show it to any retailer in the UK, the card is known world wide, the retailer will swipe your card through the system and gives you a VAT refund receipt. Before departure from the UK take the goods and the receipt the the customs office located before and after the security/Passport control, in order any items that will be in your check-in baggage to be stamp before check-in or after security/passport if the items are being carried on your possession for example telephones, laptops or tablets, once the customs has signed the VAT refund form take it to TravelEx bureau located at every airport and they will issue the fund for you instantly up to the sum of £1500 or you can have it credit to a non UK debit or credit card, they will charge you a small fee for the service. it is very easy to do. if you are traveling as a UK national just show them any Invoice or a bank statement issued abroad is sufficient to get a refund. for example a Iphone5 for example is £699 you will get a refund of £83.50 in refund.

No worries glas to be of assistance.
If you go onto the web site of globalblue, you can work out how to are like to get on a tax refund, but word of advice, check out he prices in Turkey as well even You can get a vat refund from the stores in Turkey just ask them for the TAX FREE receipt, due to the fall of the value of TL some of the items are actually cheaper in Turkey now then the UK. for example compare prices between store.ipone/uk and store.iphone/Ttr and the difference can be anything up to 300TL cheaper.
Ps: feel free to ask any questions relating to your rights under EU

Increase in fees and charges are what some airline company pursues just like any other company in the same industry. When recession hits the country, almost everything in the world raises their price. However, as expected, fees and charges for your luggage continued to rise and though it’s additional hassle, we don’t have any option but to abide for it. Your search is over, all of the facts you will need is at
Match Financial.

Reclaiming Vat work well in certain situations. If you are flying to the South you cannot claim your Vat back in the UK as you must do it using the last country of exit leaving the EU. When you get to the South and go to customs they say we can't refund you as you are not leaving the EU, the North is ours and it's under occupation by Turkey.
