I hope this is not taken the wrong way. However, what justification is there for yet another cancer support group when there are 3 - 4 already functioning here? Why not add the input/interest/endeavour to those already in existance and strengthen them, rather than dilute their efforts/fund raising capabilities by increasing 'opposition'?

Where are all these other cancer support groups?
Please post for anyone needing support, also maybe mishmash and anyone else could benefit from this information of the 3-4 groups.

I have posted this on behalf of a friend, so I'm not involved with this group.
However,as we know there are very good cancer charities doing a fantastic job here. As far as I believe this support group is about people who find themselves in similar situations (being carers of cancer patients) who will meet to talk and provide mutual informal support to each other through their experiences, it is not about fundraising etc.
I have put a telephone number should anyone want further information.

Well done mishmash, it doesn't matter whether its cancer, dementia or whatever, the carers of people with these dreadful diseases need all the support and encouragement available. Just to be able to have a cuppa and a good cry with someone else who understands can work wonders.

Ref msg 3 above. The 3 I know of are:
TULIPS - Help those with cancer association.
NCCCT - North Cyprus Charity Trust.
KAV - Pro Cancer Research Fund and Cancer Research Foundation.
I feel sure there are probably others as well.

I agree with Sophie. When I lived in the UK I had breast cancer. Shortly after my operation a local support group was founded, called Bosom Buddies.(1999).We used to meet in a local church hall once a month for a chat. We had tea and bikkies etc. sometimes a raffle to raise funds for the occasional meal out. Some month a speaker such as breast reconstruction surgeon, Cancer support nurse, etc. I found the help and advice I received here invaluable. Being able to speak to people who had had the same problems and discuss how they dealt with things. I think for someone to want to give that kind of support here is fantastic, I wish them every success. I am still in contact with them and receive a monthly news letter via e-mail

tomsteel,
I miss understood your message, I think you mean Charity Associations who are there to support cancer patients in their treatment and to raise money to buy equipment, drugs etc.
I had read the 1st msg as a support group for cancer patients to meet regularly (maybe once a week or month) to support each other as both Sophie and Owl Lady stated as it is often good to talk to someone who has been through the experience you may be going through at that time.
I do not think that any of the charitable associations that you mention above actually offer this service.

TULIPS does, to my knowledge, help families/carers. That said, if any support is available to those involved in this awful disease, I am for it. I just feel their efforts could be better utilised co-located within an existing organisation, rather than set up another group. Better to improve the system currently running - IMHO.

Tulips and other cancer organisations do a fantastic job the group i am setting up is a support group for people like myself struggling to care for a loved one going through this dreadful disease and the treatment, there is no after care here its a struggle at times to come to terms with watching someone you love suffer people forget its not just the person going through treatment its also the carer i have never been told about any support group. The ladies from Tulips do a great job but it would be good to talk to someone else going through the same thing as myself. Jeanette Travis

I agree with you Jeanette,I only posted that as a cancer sufferer I appreciated the support I got, I am sure my late husband would have been helped, talking to other people in the same situation. He was lucky in that I did survive!!

Yes, my earlier posting was that I had enormous sympathy for carers, who, in many cases are the forgotten ones.
