Just for info. Turkish Airlines entitlement of 23kg for hold luggage has now been reduced to 20kg. Do not get caught out as I did yesterday...cost me £29 excess baggage.

Last couple of times I've flown with Turkish Airlines I've had a 20kg limit.

That's odd - I've just booked my wife a flight to Dublin and it states 30 kilo weight limit. Someone suggested it might be the type of aeroplane they are using on the service. While on the subject have searched the website to book assistance for her on and off the plane and through the airports, as she has difficulty walking far and climbing steps and I can't find any reference to it. Has anyone else requested such assistance and if so how did you do it please?

I booked Manchester - Istanbul yesterday 23kg hold and 10kg cabin. Returned from Ercan 2 weeks ago one case was 25kg the other 24.50 not charged. I weighed my cabin luggage it was 11kg not weighed at check in, , I also had a large handbag and a shopping bag not checked.
when you book it asks if you want any assistance and you also can choose the type of meal you want.

On most airlines if you want assistance, it's done when you are booking the ticket. It's on the same page as the various questions they ask you, i.e. cases, food, veggie etc. but sometimes it does take a bit of searching for.

Hi
I flew back to UK on Tuesday with TA and it was 23Kgs hold ad 8Kgs for cabin.
I always find it is printed on your ticket what you baggage allowance is and as I do it online I find out in advance.
I know its horrid when you are hit with excess fees though - I used to find that more with Pegasus though.

There was nothing on my e-ticket regarding my baggage allowance (strange in itself I thought) and when I checked online at the airport it said 20kg.

This is what I found:

http://www.turkishairlines.com/en-int/t ... -allowance

I was told by the check-in staff that the allowance had changed about 2/3 months ago.

I have now emailed THY to try and get a definitive answer.

That is strange - my new electronic ticket says quite clearly that it is 23Kgs
Good Luck

Good luck with mailing them, they are very poor indeed on their communications side.

I have just checked my e-ticket for my Istanbul flight in June definitely says 23kg and 10kg.

The free cabin baggage allowance may vary according to reservation class and departure runway.

That's as clear as mud then!

May be we should all email BHX.CUSTOMER@THY.COM and tell them that we think their policy of reduced baggage allowances for Cyprus is going to stop us from using them... if it pushes up the cost by £30 per person then it's cheaper to fly with AtlasJet or Pegasus... I see that Economy class flights from Germany get 30kg to Turkey and beyond ... so we are being financially abused for living in Cyprus.... outrageous!

Never had any issue with baggage weight at TA and I fly very regularly with them.
Some of the walk on baggage must clearly exceed the stated limit , but I have never seen any
One declined..
Grouches email address will not work

TA are great for us in Scotland as we can fly from Edinburgh and I think they offer a really great service all round. Much cheaper for us than having to fly to London Airports then out to Turkey/Ercan.

I booked assistance help the last time I flew with them and they had no record of it when I arrived at the airport. Thankfully I managed, just. When you go to check in make sure they realise if your wife has difficulty with steps as the aircraft don't always use the walkways from the plane to the terminal, the planes often park on the strip instead so you have to get a bus to the terminal from the plane. I hope your wife has more luck than I did!

I must have flown to Istanbul 20 times over the past one year or so. The luggage allowance has always been 20 Kg plus 8 Kg cabin allowance!

Whoever said "it changed 2-3 months ago" probably said it to avoid an argument...

On many "Long distance" destinations THY luggage allowance is 30 Kgs - especially when the aircraft used is a one of the wide bodied Boeing 777s they have in their fleet. Smaller aircraft including Airbuses smaller than A350 model, like those used between Ercan and Turkish mainland airports have less cargo/weight capacity, hence more restrictions on luggage.

I emailed Turkish airlines... they sent me duff info followed by this:-

Please note that this is a correction for previous e-mail.

Baggage allowance from UK-Turkey is 30kg + 2x8kg hand luggage’s for Business class passengers only.

For economy passengers the allowance is 23kg + 8kg.

Baggage allowance is same for Business class passengers travelling from Turkey, but the economy tickets have only 20kg + 8kg hand luggage.

Baggage allowances can vary depending on departure and arrival destinations set by the airline.

Thank you for choosing Europe's Best Airline.
