Beware the HSBC atm it is capturing cards frequently.It took mine yesterday because not enough card came out of the slot to be able to get it out.Thankfully I got it back this morning but another lady lost hers yesterday got it back in the afternoon but was charged 70ytl because it was after 4pm and they were closed she was leaving for the uk this morning early. The staff at the market have been telling customers not to use it as there are many problems.

Just "captured" mine about 2 hrs ago.
I went straight to the HSBC branch in Girne & was told to come back
Monday afternoon & they should have my card.

Same as me then .yesterday he said come back at 4.30 as the collectors are running late I went back at 4 and they were closed so I was there at 8.30 this morning.Why do you have to wait nearly a week? If its your only source of money what are you supposed to do?

Yesterdaythe call centre advised me to call my bank and cancel the card as it was a uk card for my security he said. Thats the last thing I wanted to do as its very difficult getting another card here quickly. He said sorry nothing we can do. How about fixing the b....y machine?

Thanks for the info. I use this ATM often to get lira and sterling and do not want to lose either of my cards. Was planning to use it tomorrow but will go into town rather than risk losing a card. Does anyone know if it's just a faulty machine or something dodgy?

It seems to be the rollers that push the card out that are not working properly maybe because it faces the sun?

All of the three ATMs in Girne HSBC have the same problem with the card insert & return mechanism.

Have you tried Garanti ATM just by the big Lemar Karacum. It dispenses Sterling. Easy parking, exchange across the road. never had a problem there. Just a thought save you going into town.

Hi Bonnie, Thanks - I do use Garanti, especially as it dispenses £20 notes but I need to withdraw lira from my HSBC account this week.

Safer to go into the bank then.

Wish I had read this before going to Supreme yesterday morning......ate mine, collect Monday........

They were emptying the machine yesterday at about 12.30 so it looks like the next day is Monday.

My card was zapped at about 11.00am & if they emptied the machine at 12.30
why was I told to come back on Monday?
I can not get in there today but will go to the bank tomorrow.

As you say, why don't they just fix it or at least put an out of order notice up.

No card tomorrow, no food on the table, arghhhhh.

I stopped at 10.30 this morning and a couple of guys were taking a look at it, I asked if it was now working and they said no, there is a problem.

I would go to the bank and demand your card its your property and their fault.

Had a call today to say its at the bank I can collect it......will be there at 830am!!!!!

If you are going to use the one at the branch in town, avoid Friday around lunch time!! Last 2 weeks,either NO Sterling, in any! Or last week wanted £500,pressed for 500 and received 100.thought I had made a mistake, but they are on opposite sides of the screen, tried again,NO Sterling, it was the last,gave up!

Supreme hsbc stm took my card to a few weeks ago and i had to wait 2 weeks to get it back :/ i prefer to use a bank machine now so if it does get sucked in i can get it back the next day.

In all the years since it's been open I've been able to get sterling out of the TEB bank, regardless of when I've gone. There is never a queue (perhaps I shouldn't have mentioned that)!!

I have used that too Sophie but I find it very difficult to see the screen when the sun is full on it.

Think I will use the Garanti machine in town in future.

I used this machine this morning after waiting and watching a couple of others first and it all worked fine. So fingers crossed no more problems with it.

The machine strikes again just spoke to a very harassed man who has lost his card and is returning to the uk tomorrow. I said go to the bank and refuse to leave until you get your card or they will fob you off with excuses.
