Can some one please let me know how if possible i can do the above

I actualy meant can i get my laptop to work through the TV.

I also want to know this. I just bought a second hand samsung lcd tv ( i think about 5-6 years old) and would like to watch i player on it

This boils down to another question, which is: -

"Does the laptop have any type of video output socket which matches a video input socket on the TV?"

15 pin 'VGA D-sub" sockets (the type that traditionally connect a monitor to a computer) are one type.

HDMI sockets are another type.

There are other, more advanced types, but unless the TV and laptop are fairly high-spec, and also fairly new, you are not likely to be in luck...

If you do have two matching connectors, then you will need to source the appropriate lead (and in the case of the 'VGA' type, you will need an audio lead as well - usually a 3.5mm stereo jack lead, although you can just opt to listen to the programmes via the laptop speakers).

With all the equipment turned off, connect the TV to the monitor, then switch on the TV, and then the laptop or desktop computer.

The computer should recognise that it has an external 'display device' connected, and will probably send to the TV screen whatever is showing on the laptop screen.

The definition, smoothness and possibly size and aspect ratio of the resultant picture on the TV screen will depend largely on the specifications and capabilities of the laptop, and you may have to delve into the 'display properties' section on the laptop to make adjustments. Some of these adjustments and the terms used to describe them would baffle an astronaut so, first things first - see if it's possible to follow the above steps and get any sort of picture, and worry about the refinements later...

It is possible to link laptop to TV ..
You will need a cable with the ends compatible to ports on both TV & laptop ..

I would agree that the guys at Acdinç Electronics, Father and Son I believe, are very knowledgeable, and also very helpful.

They would almost certainly have the leads in stock, and should be able to help identify what is required if you have difficulty following my instructions

i always Acdinc never had a problem go along tell him what you want or trying to and he sorts it out for you

HDMI CONNECTOR Is the way to go
If your TV is relatively new say 3-4 years old the same for the lap top the HDMI cable puts sound and pictures through one cable to TV from the computer
HDMI port looks like a USB connector but is curved(bowed) on the one side and flat on the other side

Our T.V. is an old c.r.t. one with no modern connectivity. I bought a Sumvision Media Player.
This allows me to connect my laptop or portable hard drive direct to the telly using the jack type plugs into the red, yellow white sockets of the telly. Works fine.

sorry flash alec, a c.r.t. is a Cathode Ray Tube t. v.
Not many of them about now, tellys are all l.e.d.
I know the new tellys are amazing in looks and performance, but I find it hard to justify throwing this one in the bin whilst it still works so well.
I just wish the thing would go bang.
