Think IOU may need a VPN to get IPlayer.

There is no filmon app for Samsung smart TV as far as I know. Full list of (UK) TV apps can be seen here http://www.samsung.com/uk/tvapps/

Filmon may work on the smart TV using the browser and just going to the filmon.com website - but then again it may not.

To get the TV apps that are listed above to work (except for BBC iPlayer app which should work anyway if you are on multimax) you will need to use a third party VPN service. Something like 'smartstream' from streamvia.com works (I use this on my Samsung smart TV and using it I can use itv, 4oD, channel 5 and Netflix apps).

HI, I contacted Multimax with the same question about BBC iplayer and itv, was told you can't put a vpn on to a smart tv.
There is a way by using a box before the router but I am not sure what it is called, the vpn goes on this box.

To Try and explain as best I can

For certain UK based services to work the services need to think your are in the UK. Services like BBC iPlayer, ITV player and 4oD for example.

Multimax automaticaly and transparently (to you the end user) route all traffic to the BBC and ONLY the BBC in such a way as it looks to the BBC like you are in the UK. So BBC iPlayer should just work on any device connected to a Multimax internet connection without the end user having to do anything. There may be issues with say a smart TV in getting the BBC iPlayer app onto the TV in the first instance, as the app does not come from the BBC but will come for example on a samsung TV from samsung themselves. However provided you can get the app on the TV it should just work on a Multimax connection without the need to do anything. This is ONLY for BBC iPlayer.

For services other than BBC iPlayer you will need to use 'something' to make it look to those services like you are in the UK.

For devices where you can configure a VPN on the device itself (like PC / Laptop / Tablet / Smartphone) then the 'something' to use is the free Multimax VPN. You configure this on the device directly and use it when you need to (when you want to use say ITV Player or 4oD) and not when you do not.

For devices where you can not directly configure the multimax free VPN, like say a smart TV, there are a couple of alternatives.

The alternative I recommend for such devices like a smart TV where you can not configfure the free Multimax VPN on the device directly but where you can manualy set DNS settings would be a third party service like 'smartstream' from streamvia.com ( details here https://help.streamvia.com/SmartStream) - though other companies like hma also offer a similar service. Using a service like this you can get ITV Player, 4oD, Netflix and other apps working on a samsung smart TV. This DNS based solution will only work for the specific pre defined services that smartstream support (a list of such can be seen here https://help.streamvia.com/SmartStream/ ... %20SmartTV )

A second possible solution for devices that you can not configure a VPN on directly but not one I would recommend would be to have a router that itself routes all traffic on any device connected to it via a UK VPN. There are serveral reasons why I do not generally recommend this solution. Firstly you will need a third party VPN service as this can not be done with the free Multimax vPN. Secondly you will need a very specific router and will need to replace its firmware with an alternative open source firmware (like dd-wrt or tomato) and then configure it to work with the third party VPN service. This is not a simple process and replacing the firmware if not done properly or if interupted (say by a power cut) could render the rouiter unusable. Finally such a solution will route ALL traffic from any device connected to it via the UK VPN, whether that traffic needs to go via the VPN (in the case of say ITV Player) as well as if it does not.

Anyway I hope this makes some kind of sense and has not just created more confusion.

Hi All, thank you for all the replies, very very helpful, I think I'll have to call out an engineer, I can understand quite a lot where I was going wrong, but might need some technical engineer help. Once again thank you for all the help.
