The machine outside Lemar at Karakum is dispensing out of circulation twenty pound notes.
Drew out £250 on Saturday to pay the Multimax bill. Multimax phoned today to say the bank wouldn't accept the notes.
Not surprising really they were taken out of UK circulation in June 2010!
Had to drive to Garanti central bank in Lefkosa to get them changed as the branch wouldn't do it.
Check to make sure the notes you get have Adam Smith on the back and not Edward Elgar.

Could be why they didn't seem surprised in Lefkosa and changed the money for new notes immediately!

Once you get the money from the machine its too late to check.

Yes it is too late, but checking them before you pay a bill will save a bit of bother.
We had to go and get the money back and repay the bill and then trot of to Lefkosa.
