I think that the charities around the World, including KAV are doing a magnificent job raising money in support of those organisations carrying out cancer research in an endeavour to knock this dreadful disease on the head. However and as I understand it, the moneys raised for KAV within the TRNC are remitted back to the UK based cancer research organisations?
Not sure if people over here are generally aware of the fact that the TRNC has one of the highest incidences of cancer per head of population in the World. This has been reported in the local English and Turkish speaking press over the last few years a number of times.
There are several local cancer charities over here raising funds in support of cancer patients who are purely based in the TRNC. My feeling is that we should, as a small country support our own people first by channelling our fund-raising to those local charities.
Unfortunately, it is one of the dilemmas we all face in deciding which charities to support. When I lived full time in the UK my donations always went to cancer research charities based in the UK.

Hi Lally thanks for your posting, Please how do you know that the money raised here is going to the UK, ? Please can you be more specific Thanks. Have you attended a KAV event ?, and heard a talk by the dedicated volunteers who work so hard ? Do you know what research they are doing here in North Cyprus ?
I always say for our children's children future we need to find a cure for this terrible cancer ! And for those that are not aware there is research going on here where we live and as you stated where there is a very high rate of cancer ! So I know that KAV are thinking of this small place we live in. !
You are so right that we also have other cancer charities that offer the '' care and support '' to cancer patients that is so very much needed too and again Tulips and NCCCT do such a fantastic job. Sometimes like many we all feel that its about charities and giving. As I see it many of us suffer with what I call '' High class problems '' today, and often worry about '' The small stuff ''
I have been talking back in the UK with 2 very dear friends who have both been given the dreadful news that they have only months to live, I also know a few more friends who are receiving continued cancer treatment.
we all have our chosen charities and often more than one, some people choose never to give to a charity either ! Some choose to give world wide. And just for Sunday May 25th I choose to support KAV on this chosen day, I will be having my head shaved as for me my hair will grow back again and I just hope and pray that I will be able to see my dear friends back home one more time.
So back to the fun filled day of music, dace, drink and laughter. Please all come along and join us. Life is too short not to have some fun and offer what little we can. Posters and sponsor forms will be printed very soon.
For more information please contact me. Thanks,

I think - in fact pretty sure- but you need to double check, that the money raised here in the TRNC goes to the researchproject that is being undertaken to find out what may be the cause of so much cancer here.
So I reckon that is an even bigger reason for supporting KAV and any events it puts on. The project is taking a lot of money and so every lira raised is vital to finding the answers we need.
So do go along. have a fun day, learn a lot and know you are helping the future of the island and its health.
Can't be bad, can it?

As a volunteer for NCCCT and a supporter of Tulips, I say give your support to KAV in their quest to find a cure and then maybe you won't need us!!
