Thanks ScubaBoy9. Looks as though I will have to keep looking for a reliable streaming device.

The Roku needs to be loaded in the UK and brought out here... then all the UK channels should work. So don't set it up here, set it up in the UK and the box will then be preloaded with the UK channels. If you buy one from Amazon UK and bring it here unloaded it will default to the US channel selection but if you do it right then you will get what you are after.

Thanks Groucho,

I'm not in the TRNC just now, but will be in a few weeks. Can I contact you to find out how to load the UK channels as my missus is going to be in the UK at the end of May and I will buy one for her to bring back.
If so, could you e mail me on courtenay.1@hotmail.com with details?

Cheers,

Stu.

I have never actually used a roku device but I am not sure it is just a case of setting it up in the UK and then it will work here. I might be wrong but I strongly suspect that even if set up in the UK some things will not work here. BBC iplayer if you are on a multimax connection should work as MM automatically make it look like you are in the UK for BBC iplayer, but other UK services that restrict access based on your IP's location will quite possibly not work (because your IP address will show you are not in the UK). The 'normal' methods around this (using a vpn or using a third party dns based service) can not be used on a roku as I understand it as you can not configure a VPN on the Roku device nor can you manual set a DNS server either. Like I say I might be wrong but this is my suspicion. It would be good to get this tested however, so if you do get a roku and set it up in the UK and then try it here please do let us know how you get on.

You don't need my help a new Roku box will guide you through the setup process in the UK including connecting to a WiFi or Wired connection then registering a Roku Account (in the UK) and then you can load all the channels you want. When you bring it out here and connect to a Wireless internet service it will simply continue to play the channels you've pre-loaded... I know this works as by B-In-L has done just that and it work fine here and he is on Multimax...

Stu,

Just checked my B-in-L's set up and the Roku LT that he was given (pre-loaded in UK) has BBC News, 4onD, 5onD, BBC iPlayer etc.... I am going to send mine back to UK with my son who will do factory reset, and re-register in the UK and pre-load it before bringing it back here... Hoping that will allow us to watch all the programmes that are UK available and loaded.

One word of caution being that I imagine you can't add any more 'UK only' channels once the box is here without returning to the UK (or following Erol's VPN and special router option)
