Could anyone advise, what the procedure is, and how simple or not it is, to reconnect a land line to the new owner of a property?
Was assured the land line would stay connected and would just be transferred over, and now I have been told that it was disconnected by the vendor..... Not happy about that!
Any info on this would be most helpful.

I know when I came here (quite some years ago!) the telephone company insisted that the line had to be disconnected and then reconnected with a different phone number when there was a change of name. Simple enough procedure I seem to recall. Go to the telephone office in Girne (almost opp. the Post Office). Go around the side and you will find an enquiry office on the ground floor. They will have to do a new contract, issue a new phone number and relieve you of some money. - no idea how much this might be these days. Take your passport with you and your contract or kocan,

If I remember correctly it cost me about an hour of my time in that office and was relieved of I think about £200 as a security deposit which I was told was refundable if I kept my receipt. That may be why the previous owner had it disconnected, to get deposit back?

Went down this route just over a year ago. Was asked for £250 up front (even though it was for a charity office and vouched for by a very reputable landlord). I said "but locals are only asked for £50" the answer being "but you are a foreigner and you might run away without paying your bill"

I did this last april. Had to go with the owner of the line and myself to the phone company opposite the Law courts. A copy of her passport, a copy of mine and a copy of the lease on my property. Had to pay a 200 lira deposit and 47 lira transfer fee.
I dont think its a good idea to let it be disconected as I think there may be a delay in it being reconnect.
Well worth doing as ADSL is a very cheap option if you have a landline.

We had our number reconnected and a Cypriot friend was a guarantor as it would of been a struggle to raise the deposit they suggested to me. After that it was the most simple thing and all done within 2 weeks.
Filled in form, paid 46.30tl , had line checked, man came back 2 weeks later knocked on door with telephone wire with a phone attached - you listen then disconnected the phone and left. We ran the wire in, used a telephone box, purchased a phone and all has been ok since
