Fire last night.

Was woken at 3am by loads of sirens last night and from our top bedroom window here in Karsiyaka
there was a very bright glow and lots of smoke coming from the sea side area of possibly Lapta.
Could be wrong regarding the location as it was very hard to tell.
Hope nobody was hurt. Does anyone know where it was?

Not saying this is the case here but I'm getting really concerned at the number of cars we see where the occupants simply eject their still-burning cigarette ends from the car.... With a little breeze they can easily roll to the verge and start a fire... you see evidence of fires along the roadside as you head to Beyarmudu and it can't just be coincidence that they are nearly all right at the edge of the road.... With the weather being the driest in recorded history it's going to be a long hot fire-punctuated summer. The island is simply a tinder-box waiting to be ignited!

Thanks for the update Bubbles.
Heard today from people who witnessed these two cars racing at high speeds through Karsiyaka.
What a waste of life...when will they ever learn?

Unfortunately in Cyprus they often take a higher number of innocent bystanders with them - which is the antithesis of Darwinism

Sadly while these people continue to drive like maniacs with no regard for themselves or other road users, and the police fail to actually police the roads or the appalling standard of driving then lives will continue to be lost. My heart is in my mouth every time we go out in the car and some of the stupidity we see is beyond understanding.

Having read the above I'm not sure now whether it was a fire or a car crash? Was the smoke from burning cars then?

Sophie,
Yes, it was a car accident involving 2 cars.
