We went to Tempo last week and bought some pork chops in their 'Pork Shop'. They must have been good as my husband commented how nice they were, really meaty with the fat trimmed off.

Thanks Maisiemoo, I have taken note of that but just wondered if there was a butcher recommended rather than a supermarket.

The Pork Shop in Alsancak is a proper butcher. He raises his own pigs and buitchers them he is the only pig farmer in the north. Tempos pork is imported from the south. There is a limited amount of his meat in Supreme supermarket which he is hoping to extend soon. He sells every cut of meat plus ham and bacon and sausages.

There is another PORK shop on the left from Girne just between the Karakum Lemar and Supreme. What I don't like though, as and when I have been to the Pork shops, they do not display the prices.I'm always a bit sceptical when prices are not shewn.

The pork in Tempo Catalkoy is very good indeed... they sell belly pork slices (like spare rib only meatier and less bone), big chops, small chops (called Irish Rashers) lage lumps of belly pork (great for pork kebabs) and escalope slices (for breading) as well as bacon and so many different types of ham it's difficult to choose... If it does come from the south I'm surprised as I thought there was a total ban on cross-border trade in meat.... all prices shown on the fresh pork at least.

I could be wrong, and I am sure someone will tell me, I believe the 2 pork shops are the same owner!!
I have always had good meat from the Alsancak one, but not tried the other, so can't comment on that one.

Alasanc one is Father, the other is the Son. Last week I met the Brit who trained up and showed them how to start a pork farm and butchery business including making sausages and bacon.

Pork Shop by far the best, and everything is weighed and labelled with cost when purchased, always have found them very reasonable, and always had good meat!
