Driving Licence renewal fiasco

Took all relevant documents & expired licences to the office 9 weeks ago, left it for five weeks then returned in the hope of collecting it. Come back next week, returned the next week, come back next week, again returned, come back next week.
Went back again today, now they decide our address is inadequate, they want a street name. Our address has been adequate for the past two renewals and also for our residency in January.
They still had our application in the office. Why oh why could they not have mentioned this on the previous visits?!!!

Went to renew our driving licenses today and was told to go back in 4 weeks. As we were leaving, 2 people said not a chance try 8 weeks it might be back. I must say it does look a bit chaotic behind the counter and why in this day of computers does it take so long?

As long as you keep your receipt it doesnt matter if you are stopped that is enough.

When you go back and your licence is not ready, they should re-stamp your receipt to keep it current. The thing is, they do not make them in Girne; all are sent to Lefkosia and they get very busy and perhaps Girne licences do not take precedence.

Can you tell me please what is needed for renewal? I imagine we don't need all the copies of this that and the other as it is only a renewal not a new application. Thanks in advance.

As I explained in a previous post, we went yesterday to renew ours. We took muhkters letter, 2 photos, present driving license, copy of photo page in passport and 270tl each for 3 years.

Mrsgee. Maybe only a renewal but you'll need all the documentation that the butlers wife has listed plus you need to fill in a form. This is in English so quite straightforward. Be certain to put a street name in your address section or nine weeks on you'll be in the same position we are in.

carrierbag, Yes we've had our pink slip stamped as proof of application

Deniz 1 I'm not concerned about being stopped. I realise that our pink slip covers us. My point was that why couldn't they have informed us four weeks ago that our address was inadequate without a street name. We could have sorted it there & then instead of this constant toing & froing week after week believing our application was being processed.

tomsteele, You're absolutely right, this is North Cyprus, so why was I surprised?!!!!

We did ours end of 2013 and only took current licence, two photos and money. No Muhktar letter, no copy of passport.

carrierbag,
Don't for one moment doubt what you say. They seem to rewrite the rule book every so often.
Did you not even have to fill out the form?
However to save numerous trips may be better to go prepared for all eventualities.

Love it here, but is there any wonder why Micky Mouse wears a TRNC watch?

We were told we needed the muhkters letter because being over 60 we didn't renew our residency this year.
They asked for this letter and it has all gone off to Nicosia with the application form.

Thanks for the replies. Butlers Wife I understand I think, then, why you needed the Muhtars letter. We renewed our residency this year, even though over 60, so I will take a copy of the page in the passport with the Temp Residency on. In fact, I think I will go and take just the minimum and see what I get away with. A friend recently renewed his and did not need new photos.

Right - job done!! Went down and filled in the form, took passports, copies of the residency stamp page and the photo page.....all good so far. Was asked for 2 photos, which we gave, but they were no good as the background now has to be white and although the blue background was acceptable 5 years ago, now its not. I did ask if we could tippex the blue background, which made the very nice man chuckle, but no had to pop down the road and get new ones. Got back just before they closed for lunch at 12.45, very nice lady dealt with it. Handed everything over, including nice new photos, and 270.30 tl each. Come back in a month she said......so will go back in six weeks. Have the pink slip to show police if necessary. Not painful at all!!!
