How do i do outstanding finance check on car4sale-URGENT

Am about to change my vehicle but need to check whether outstanding finance is on the one i am about to buy!

Some one kindly told me recently that your vehicle can be taken off you if there is outstanding finance on it you are unaware of and nothing can be done about it apparently.....

Any information would be greatly appreciated right now....

i think you can only check to make sure there is no fines or tax outstanding

There is no H.P.I. like in the uk, so my advise is to make sure you know the people you are buying it from and how long the previos owner had it, and where they bought it from, look in the log book if its registered to a Banks name at any time,, as if they loan money they register the car in there name, if a bank name is in the l/book go and ask that bank if they still have an interest in the vehicle. Also maybe ask at the Police station if there is any thing else you can do, Good luck.
