Try adding 1 teaspoon of washing up liquid per pint of water and spraying the solution on the little darlings. A natural method is to apply the Lecanicillium fungus but that may not be obtainable here.

Thanks for the answers so far, tried the soap & water last year, didn't work also tried 2 different bug killers which had some effect. I was hoping someone found something last year ( as loads of people had them) that was really effective. I am hoping to catch it before the whole garden , even hedging, is covered in the as happened last summer. So anyone else got it yet??

Hi Gilly123 I used a solution called Fosforin M last year, and sprayed a couple of times. Not wanting to tempt fate, but just checked my Hibiscus and so far!!.

This year the Bougainvillea is covered with white mealy bugs the like of which we have NEVER seen before in 12 years. Last year they 'attacked' the Hibiscus but so far, this year they are ok. Where can Fosforin M be bought please?

I would imagine any garden centre that sells insect repellents.Try the one near Girne hospital on the main road.

"White mealey bugs are back" I thought it was either a new rock band or a menu item!

If it helps the name in Turkish is pamuk bocek (pronounced burcheck) which literally means cotton bug or beetle. If you tell them that in the garden centres they may be able to help you.
