On behalf of UK resident friends my neighbours have agreed to top up their Kibtec account but, after hours of queueing on 2 separate days and never reaching the front, they are wondering if there is some other way to achieve this. They don't have a local bank account so is there some place other than the Kibtec office in Girne they could try?

I'm only over one month a year, my local bank, Turk Bankasi, pays my electric and Council Tax from my account. No problem, why not open an account, its easy and quick, just take your passport and cash into a local branch.

You can pay at any bank if you take a Kibtek Bill with your account number.
Just keep your bank receipt.

There is now a "cash payment" machine installed at the Kıbtek Office. You just use your electric bill and put the notes in just like cash machine. Staff are helğing those who do not know how - but it really is a very simple procedure, simpler than using a bank cask machine. After payment, it issues you with a receipt but you must pay cash - machine does not accept credit card payments.

You can also pay at some supermarkets where they show the Fatura Nokta sign. I have used Starling on the Bellapais road and the one the far end of Alsancak. You just present your bill which and the money and they give you a receipt. Normally there is about a 1tl charge but that's pretty good for the convenience!

we have for the last 2years payed ours and our telephone at Asbank by Lemar at Catalkoy. We didnt have an account with them, think they charge about 1tl to do it. Not sure if they can take payment in advance but worth asking.

think you'll find that no bank can take any payment for anything other than what is on the bill. if it is advance payment then it has to be paid in the kibtek office. whether or not this new machine outside will take these type of payments i don't know, if it does then problem solved if not then it is down to queuing or like has been suggested to pay via a bank on a direct debit system. good luck
