Need to insure for the purpose of collecting relatives from Larnaca.
Do this only once a year & can't remember whether they will accept sterling or must it be euro.
Could anyone confirm for me please. Thanks in advance

It's Euros. Do you have your 'MOT' for South? - you need this before you can buy insurance. It's obtained from the booth next to where they check your passports on South side of crossing at Metehan (can't get this at any of the other crossings). The booth is only open until 2ish Mondays - Fridays but not on ROC bank holidays.

Thanks come-on-aylin.
Very helpful. Saved us a wasted journey.
We do have our "MOT" thingy from last year. Checked, it has about another month to run so should see us through the collection & return of our visitors to Larnaca airport.
.Clearly remember the day we got it as they refused to accept our Turkish driving licence and we had to return next day with our British licence
No plans to make any further trips South in the near future.

Could we take this post 1 stage further? Would be useful if someone could post exactly what documents and procedure is when taking a North Cyprus vehicle across to the south.

Presume the following are needed but feel free to add or expand on the list

1. North Cyprus Vehicle documents showing ownership
2. Up to date North Cyprus tax
3. North Cyprus MOT - Need south Cyprus MOT? What is this and how do we obtain?
4. Driving licence - UK OK?
5. North Cyprus Insurance - Purchase south Cyprus insurance at crossing? How much roughly? Valid for how long?
6. How do we pay for all the above? Euros? Debit card?

Would be a great help as this question often comes up on the forum

To get your police certificate (TOM) in the south you need your: log book, road tax, UK licence and passport.
To buy insurance you need your police certificate and UK licence.
Monthly cost for a car is €25 and for larger vehicles €30.
Insurance can be bought annually but there is no financial benefit to this as it is the monthly cost multiplied by 12.
You can pay in Euros/credit/debit cards.
To get your Police certificate you take your documents to the police booth at Metahan before purchasing your insurance.
