I know we pay the annual property tax, but I have been informed that there is also a garden tax we have to pay. I have lived here for 5 years and have never heard of it, can anybody confirm whether this is correct or not.

Well that's a new one! Never heard of it. We have fairly recently registered to pay property tax and I am sure that they would have taken that opportunity to start charging garden tax if we had to. As far as I know the property tax covers everything, house, garden, pool.

Who told you there was a garden tax?

Perhaps the person meant a pool tax. I believe you pay something silly, like 50kurus, if you have a pool.

Property Tax is calculated at 1TL per square metre of covered space, or TL1.25 if you have a pool. The charge is the same whichever belediye you pay it to - they have no say over this as the money is passed on to the government anyway.
