Any one know if I can use my UK Debit card to withdraw cash in an exchange shop. I have seen people use a credit card to do this. I am fed up with the ATM machines eating my card its such a hassle to get it back.

So will possibly your UK Bank charge for foreign currency exchange, especially HSBC, unless you have a Premier acc.

I use my Nationwide flex a/c card in the HSBC atm's and have done so for 8 years and dare I say it, have never had one gobbled up as yet. The one outside Supreme supermarket and outside theHABC bank in Girne dispence £50 notes. The one at Lemar in Karakum dispences £20 notes.

Like Compass I use both TEB and Garanti, but as your card has been "gobbled" so many times could it be that the card has become (or is becoming) corrupted in some way?
