Hello lovely people!
I am completely new to this site and would like to ask if anyone could give me a ballpark figure of cost of bills (sky/water/electricity/gas/council tax etc.) per month.
I understand these may vary..but a guide for a family usage would be great so we know what to expect when we come in September!
Thanking you in advance!!

There has been talk on here before of having a comfortable life for £1000 a month.
There will be factors to take in to account such as pool or no pool, vehicle or no vehicle etc.
How many times you eat out etc.
Council tax is circa £100 per month rather than £1000 per month (approx.) for example, but some purchases and cars are more expensive.
I personally think you could live on slightly less than that.
I'm sure other people have ideas.

Chris-I think you meant council tax is £100 per year here as opposed to £1000 per year in UK.
Unless you have a bloody big house in the UK that is!

We are family of 4, 4 bed house, pool.
CT - 300-400tl/year
We run central heating - 700tl/year + 40tl/year CH tax
Logs - 300tl/year
Electric - 400tl/month (average)
Water (inc bele taxes) say 30tl/month
Groceries - much same as UK
Eating out - what you choose
Pool maintenance - about £60/month (We do most of ours ourselves, so much less)
Also, allow say £500/year for minor repairs - cracks etc
You can run a small cheap (5k!!) car for say 300tl minimum insurance, 180-200tl road tax
Petrol - about same as UK I believe
However, if you have a house on builders electric, and no mains water, you can add a great deal to this, also a house with no kocan and no services connected, add thousands for future fees (i.e. walk away!).

You will need a reserve for medical & dental bills as well, no NHS in TRNC!
Are you moving over with a family without researching whether or not you can afford it? Do you have private income or are you hoping to get jobs to support yourselves?

My advice would be rent for a while and see what your own out goings would be .
As we all live different lives regarding financial out goings.
Employment appears to difficult to get and if you do manage to get employed salary is low when comparing cost of living in the North.
If you are starting a business complications can be an issue but can be overcome,
If you are a handy person who can do most DIY jobs this will obviously be a saving.
If you eat mainly at home then this obviously cuts costs.
Map out the very least you would have to spend and then compare.
Hope this helps.

Don't forget to allow for for car servicing and any repairs, plus any other repairs or breakdowns or un-expected expenses. There always seem to be some every year. Plus doctors, dentists, hairdressers, the list goes on. I don't think I spend a lot , and don't drink or smoke, but my costs are roughly £1,000 per month and that's just me and my 9 cats

Gas heating with radiators.
Our house is cavity and insulated, but of course the floors don't help.
We run it for about 60-90 mins in the morning to take the chill off, and within 10 mins, the quilt is off as it's too hot.
We then use the log burner in the day if it is cold, and flick the CH on at night for an hour or so if needed.
We don't use the CH to heat the water.
